Guests say

The Old White Cottage in Shillelagh is highly praised for its comfortable, homely feel, well-equipped kitchen, and tranquil rural setting. Guests appreciate the generous hospitality, including welcome gifts and local insights from the hosts, John and Jacinta. The property serves as an excellent base for exploring County Wicklow, with many noting the beauty of the surrounding countryside and the convenience of nearby attractions. While some minor maintenance issues are mentioned, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction and a desire to return.

The cottage generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests finding it clean and comfortable. There are isolated mentions of needing to clean the fridge and some paint flaking on outdoor furniture, but these appear to be exceptions in an otherwise well-maintained property.

The location is consistently described as peaceful and tranquil, ideal for relaxation and as a base for exploring the beauty of County Wicklow and Wexford. Its rural setting and proximity to nature trails, gardens, and woodland are frequently commended.

Guests frequently comment on the comfortable bedding, cosy living spaces, and the overall homely atmosphere of the cottage. The presence of a wood burner adds to the cosy feel, and the property is noted for being dog-friendly and suitable for guests with mobility issues.

The cottage is praised for its well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. However, some guests mention issues with shower doors, cupboard knobs, and outdoor furniture maintenance. The availability of a washing machine and dryer in an outhouse is noted, though access is described as uneven.

The hosts are frequently mentioned for their thoughtfulness, providing welcome gifts such as wine, cheese, and homemade treats. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it is politely noted that such gifts, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.
