An hour's drive from Belfast and 15 minutes west of the iconic Giant's Causeway, you'll find the idyllic town of Portrush nestled on the northern coast.
Northern Ireland has eight 'Blue Flag' beaches in total, and all three in Portrush hold the accolade. To the west of the peninsula and the south side of the harbour, you can enjoy West Strand Beach. The majestic East Strand Beach is to the left and then there's the most famous, White Rocks Beach which is littered with limestone cliffs and sea caves.
There's also plenty of fascinating history in the area. Dunluce Castle stands on the edge of the water and is well worth a day trip. While dogs aren't allowed inside, the castle is still a marvel to behold from a distance. It was even used in Game of Thrones as the Greyjoy's Pyke Castle.
Portrush is also a sporting hotspot. The Royal Portrush Golf Club has held the Open before and will again in 2025. Meanwhile, the North West 200, an exhilarating motorcycle road race, is held in May. The thrilling event runs along the dramatic Causeway coast and over 150,000 spectators gather as the bikes race along public roads at over 200mph.
