The Old Chequer is situated in the delightful hamlet of Draycott and is a Grade II listed, former 17th century public house, one of the oldest houses in the village, dating back to the 1600's.
The Old Chequer is the epitome of boutique Cotswold chic, beautifully combining style with tradition.
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds’ this wonderful rural retreat is tucked away in the tranquil Cotswold hamlet of Draycott, equidistant between the historic market towns of Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh. Ideally located for walkers exploring the gorgeous Cotswold countryside and those who just want to get away from it all and put their feet up in front of a crackling log fire.
The Old Chequer is a beautiful property of historical importance: built on a plot of land that was first mentioned in ‘The Bishop of Worcester’s Red Book’ in the 1100s, the Grade II Listed former village pub is one of the oldest properties in the area, the building itself dating back to the Sixteenth Century. The two bedroomed cottage is brimming with original features including flag stone flooring, stunning oak beams and a large inglenook fireplace where locals would once have sat and drunk their cider. In the sitting room hangs the original inn sign which would have swung in the road until The Old Chequer closed its doors to travellers for the last time in 1800s.
Beautifully refurbished, this stylish Cotswold home also benefits from all of the modern comforts to help you switch off and make your stay a deeply relaxing and restorative one. Bathed in Cornforth White, the light and airy Scandi-inspired interiors include sumptuous sofas and chairs made by local craftsmen in nearby Winchcombe, classic mid-century Ercol dining furniture and comfortable beds with luxury bedding. Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms with walk-in showers and complimentary luxury toiletries.
The large, enclosed cottage garden offers total privacy and is the perfect spot for you – and your dogs! – to eat, play and relax.
