About this property

This spacious late 1600s, semi-detached cottage which forms part of a traditional range of farm buildings set around a courtyard is on the northern side of the Golden Valley next to the village of Riddings, providing a fantastic base for families and those with pets. This lovely, traditional home from home is full of charm and has four comfortable bedrooms, two of which have en-suite facilities. Downstairs there’s a cosy sitting room with low ceilings and oak beams where you can relax at the end of the day, a spacious dining room again with low ceilings and oak beams and an open fire, and a lovely farmhouse style breakfast kitchen with quarry tiles, beams and a Belfast sink. There’s a lovely cottage garden to the front and side, perfect for a barbecue and chilling out in the sun. A really fantastic feature of this cottage is it has a paddock and field with walks all the way down into the valley which means you can step out the door and walk into the valley without ever going near a road. Quite amazing when you think it’s situated very conveniently for the local shops, eateries and real ale pubs. Take a stroll around Codnor Park Reservoir, jump on a steam train at the nearby Midland Railway Centre, or even try your hand at carp fishing. There’s a good golf course nearby and plenty of attractions with Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth all within easy reach. A superb cottage that you can enjoy at any time of the year.

In the village of Riddings you will find pubs, and a selection of pubs, as well as shops, supermarkets and a Post Office can be found in the town of Alfreton. Matlock is only 10 miles away, offering a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions including Gulliver's Kingdom.

The beds were comfortable and it was nice that towels were provided. The kitchen was well equipped. Some games were provided which we made good use of in the evenings. A little Robin visits daily in the garden for some food,so look out for him.

It was certainly unique, spotlessly clean and very spacious. Everything you could possibly need was there and as we were very lucky with the weather we were also able to enjoy the beautiful peaceful garden. We would all love to return.

Extremely clean and comfortable, definitely quirky, it was great that we could bring our dog too. We missed not having a dishwasher but we coped!!! Informative helpful host.
