About this property

Boasting a peaceful location at the base of Skiddaw in the small, idyllic village of Applethwaite, between the lakes of Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater, this delightful cottage is nestled amongst some of the Lake District’s most breathtaking scenery. Enjoy a challenging hike up Skiddaw (from the grounds) or the Coledale Fells (5 miles), gentle walks around Derwentwater (3 miles), and a variety of mountain bike trails for all levels of cyclists at Whinlatter Forest Park, 5 miles away. There is also a high ropes course at Go Ape! to please the thrill seekers amongst you. The vibrant market town of Keswick is only 2 miles away and is packed with independent pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants, a vibrant theatre and an independent cinema. Why not hire boats to explore Derwentwater or hop on a cruise for a leisurely day? Families will love a day out at the Lake District Wildlife Park (7 miles); from zebras to eagles, there is something for all the family.

Upon entering this historic cottage, you find yourself in a welcoming slate-flagged entrance hall. Here, there's ample space for hanging coats and storing muddy boots. Up a small step, is a convenient downstairs shower room. To the right of the entrance hall is the bright dining room, a perfect space for competitive board games and family meals. A step from here leads into the spacious lounge which boasts a comfortable sofa, and there are armchairs arranged around a Smart TV, perfect for cosy nights in watching movies. An open fire adds warmth and ambience, especially on chilly evenings. Next door to the lounge is the well-equipped galley-style kitchen. Despite its narrow layout, it's efficiently designed with all the necessary appliances and ample cupboard space. A curving cottage staircase leads to the upper floor. Here, you’ll find the master bedroom with a comfortable king-size bed. The windows boast views of the garden and surrounding countryside, allowing you to wake up to the beauty of the Lake District. There is also a twin room, perfect for children or additional guests, and there’s even plenty of space for the folding bed and the travel cot. A smaller room with a single bed is also ideal for a child or a solo traveller. The upstairs bathroom features a relaxing bath, providing the perfect spot for a soothing soak after a long day of hiking or sightseeing.

Surrounding the cottage is a sprawling 4.5 acres of picturesque grounds, offering a true taste of the beauty of the Lake District. A highlight of the property's grounds is a pretty waterfall cascading gently into a meandering stream. Various lush lawned areas dot the landscape, offering space for outdoor activities and relaxation. For al fresco dining and socialising, there's a designated BBQ area complete with seating. Here, you can grill up delicious meals while surrounded by the natural beauty of the grounds. Beyond the manicured lawns, there's a woodland area waiting to be explored. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife: you might spot deer grazing in the distance, see red squirrels darting between the trees, or hear buzzards calling as they soar over the valley.
