Hike and cycle around pretty Buttermere (10 miles), Crummock Water (8.5 miles), and Loweswater (4 miles) which has a 400 year old pub with delicious food. For arts, culture, and independent shops, visit the market town of Cockermouth (7 miles). Find ancient architecture and Viking roots in Gosforth (13.5 miles). Or pack a picnic and head to St Bees Head on the heritage coast, the starting point for the famous 190 mile Coast to Coast Walk (12.5 miles) towards Robin Hood s Bay.
