Duddon Cottage is highly praised for its spaciousness, comfort, and well-equipped nature, offering a tranquil garden with a stream, and a location that provides easy access to both the Lake District and local amenities. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including a welcome gift, and the property's suitability for both families and pets.
Guests consistently mention the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as 'very clean' and 'spotless', indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The location is generally well-regarded for its proximity to the Lake District, beaches, and local villages. However, some guests note the presence of a busy road and the associated noise, which slightly impacts the score.
Reviewers frequently commend the comfort of the cottage, highlighting 'super comfy beds' and a 'cosy' living space. The spaciousness and character of the cottage contribute to its overall comfort.
The cottage is celebrated for being well-equipped with modern appliances and facilities. A few minor suggestions for additional items and comments on maintenance issues prevent a perfect score.
While guests express gratitude for the welcome gifts and the cottage's dog-friendly features, there is not enough information to determine if such thoughtfulness is consistent across all stays. Therefore, while appreciated, these gestures are not guaranteed.
Broughton-in-Furness 1.3 miles. An immaculately presented semi-detached cottage at the tip of the Lake District National Park close to the market town of Broughton-in-Furness. This glorious cottage is steeped in delightful period features, being situated in the beautiful area of the Lake District, making it a superb cottage to spend time with family and friends. The modern kitchen still holds lots of period features such as, wooden beams and stone-flagged floor, as well as comfort from the old range fireplace. The sitting room has window seats with a large stone fireplace, with a woodburner, and a wonderful old latch door leading to the other rooms in the cottage. The staircase is truly majestic, being wider than average with a twist, as well as being framed by a large leaded window. The bedrooms, one with TV, are all spacious and beautifully presented with period fireplaces adding to the character of the property. Outside there are lawned areas surrounded by trees and woodland gardens to enjoy with plenty of birdsong, making you feel that you are at the edge of a forest. An ideal place to enjoy an alfresco drink or barbecue. Close by, Broughton-in-Furness with its market square and old stocks, has a wide array of shops, cafes and inns to frequent. The village bakery sells speciality breads and cakes and has a cosy café serving delicious breakfasts. This cottage is at the base of the Duddon Valley, which is one of the most beautiful and less travelled areas of the Lake District itself. There are plenty of wonderful hiking paths in this area, which originate from ancient monks trails having been used for transporting wool in the past. Just 20 minutes drive away is the village of Coniston which nestles under the Old Man of Coniston, part of the Furness Fells. Here you can enjoy a day walking as well as enjoying plenty of music, beer and food. A day trip to Ulverston is recommended, where you can visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum or even the South Lakes Safari Zoo. To the north-west you can also visit Eskdale or take a trip to Wasdale, for some lovely scenery and beautiful views across the countryside. This delightful cottage is an ideal base for exploring the diverse area of the Lake District National Park at any time of the year.
Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to do for the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square, enclosed by shops and pubs, Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley. Norman Nicholson and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry.

3 good sized double bedrooms were perfect. Beds really comfy. One bedroom en suite up some steps as stated and decent main bathroom. Kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook in. Dinning room good size, living room really cosy and log burner was great.. a perfect place to chill at the end of a long day walking. We only ended up eating out 1 night as it was so lovely staying in. Useful utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer and place to dry wet boots and clothes. Which really helped us as weather wasnât great. Heating really easy to use and cottage warms up really quickly and plenty of hot water. Downsides⦠the cottage is right next to a main roadâ¦surprisingly this was not actually too noisy other than first thing in the morning, but main problem is that access is via the back⦠when we arrived the path was a full flowing stream⦠you would need welly boots to get through so we had to unload at the front (there is a slight pull in, but it is a main road) and then park at back and walk back round to to the front. Other days the stream became a trickle so we could use the back entrance using walking boots. Back garden is beautiful but the stream situation is a problem. Lovely area in general⦠good access to both Lake District and local beaches. Good info at the house.

Every facility, and utensils that you could need, good communication with the host who left us a wonderful welcome gift. Would stop again at the Cottage without any hesitation, which says it all.

The cottage itself was lovely and homely, but had modern facilities such as a HD TV with a blu-ray player - perfect for watching movies in the evening! The rooms themselves were large and had very comfortable beds, and were also very nicely decorated, with plenty of cosy & homely additions. The walk up to the cottage was also like something out of a fairy tale, with a little stream next to the path - as well as being lit up at night. We would love to stay here again! :) P.S. - Although there was some noise from the street, it was nothing like some other reviews here have said - it is only really noticeable during the day in the living room.
