Broughton-in-Furness 1.3 miles. An immaculately presented semi-detached cottage at the tip of the Lake District National Park close to the market town of Broughton-in-Furness. This glorious cottage is steeped in delightful period features, being situated in the beautiful area of the Lake District, making it a superb cottage to spend time with family and friends. The modern kitchen still holds lots of period features such as, wooden beams and stone-flagged floor, as well as comfort from the old range fireplace. The sitting room has window seats with a large stone fireplace, with a woodburner, and a wonderful old latch door leading to the other rooms in the cottage. The staircase is truly majestic, being wider than average with a twist, as well as being framed by a large leaded window. The bedrooms, one with TV, are all spacious and beautifully presented with period fireplaces adding to the character of the property. Outside there are lawned areas surrounded by trees and woodland gardens to enjoy with plenty of birdsong, making you feel that you are at the edge of a forest. An ideal place to enjoy an alfresco drink or barbecue. Close by, Broughton-in-Furness with its market square and old stocks, has a wide array of shops, cafes and inns to frequent. The village bakery sells speciality breads and cakes and has a cosy café serving delicious breakfasts. This cottage is at the base of the Duddon Valley, which is one of the most beautiful and less travelled areas of the Lake District itself. There are plenty of wonderful hiking paths in this area, which originate from ancient monks trails having been used for transporting wool in the past. Just 20 minutes drive away is the village of Coniston which nestles under the Old Man of Coniston, part of the Furness Fells. Here you can enjoy a day walking as well as enjoying plenty of music, beer and food. A day trip to Ulverston is recommended, where you can visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum or even the South Lakes Safari Zoo. To the north-west you can also visit Eskdale or take a trip to Wasdale, for some lovely scenery and beautiful views across the countryside. This delightful cottage is an ideal base for exploring the diverse area of the Lake District National Park at any time of the year.
Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to do for the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square, enclosed by shops and pubs, Georgian in origin. Every facility, and utensils that you could need, good communication with the host who left us a wonderful welcome gift. Would stop again at the Cottage without any hesitation, which says it all.

The cottage itself was lovely and homely, but had modern facilities such as a HD TV with a blu-ray player - perfect for watching movies in the evening! The rooms themselves were large and had very comfortable beds, and were also very nicely decorated, with plenty of cosy & homely additions. The walk up to the cottage was also like something out of a fairy tale, with a little stream next to the path - as well as being lit up at night. We would love to stay here again! :) P.S. - Although there was some noise from the street, it was nothing like some other reviews here have said - it is only really noticeable during the day in the living room.

The cottage was warm and welcoming in an unusual setting of woods/stream edge and the cottage was very well equipped for both sunshine ( garden furniture) and rain ( heating, dryer and games galore). The bedrooms were spacious, the two bathrooms airy and practical and we had a good supply of hot water when needed. My elderly parents were able to relax, access the rooms they needed ( they didnât venture into the en suite bathroom) and the garden was fun and secure for my dog. All in all a great place to stay, cosy, quirky and unique with real Lakeland character. We didnât meet the owners and didnât need to contact them with any queries when there but all correspondence prior to our arrival was super helpful and friendly. Thank you Louise and Co, a lovely cottage and experience for us all. Helen ( Nel)
