The Hermitage in Penrith offers a cosy and welcoming stay with thoughtful touches such as wine, milk, and biscuits on arrival. Guests have praised the helpful hosts, the property's cleanliness, and its convenient location close to Ulswater. While some guests encountered maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns, the overall experience is one of a comfortable and relaxing retreat in the Lake District.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property clean and inviting, while others noted issues with marked carpets and unclean windows. The presence of both positive and negative feedback suggests a moderate level of cleanliness.
The location is generally appreciated for its proximity to Ulswater and the Lake District, making it a good base for exploring the area. However, one review mentioned difficult access, which slightly affects the score.
Guests describe the accommodation as cosy and the bedrooms as decently sized, indicating a comfortable stay. However, concerns about a loud bathroom fan and a loose toilet seat suggest some comfort issues.
Facilities like the jacuzzi are highly praised, but there are significant maintenance concerns such as a socket coming out of the wall and worn anti-slip strips on the ramp. These issues suggest that while the facilities have potential, maintenance needs improvement.
The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident in gestures like providing wine, milk, and biscuits, and checking in with guests. However, it's important to note that such gestures may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

Everything was exactly as described and the owners were very helpful. Great place to relax. Thank you for having us.

When we got there the lodge is in garden next to a wall with residential homes directly over the wall. Inside us big enough 2 bedrooms are decent sizes. I didn't feel the place was clean enough windows are filthy with old bird poo crust in. Bathroom fan is extremely loud , the toilet seat is loose and no lock on the door. Unfortunately when we finished ironing one day the socket came straight out the wall this caused a mild shock. Another safety concern was the ramp access, this has very slim anti slip strips that have expired and when wet is very dangerous. And finally got charged £150 for paw prints and what looked like a stain spilled tea? Could have been there already.. I wouldn't recommend taking a dog for this reason and also very dangerous access road . Never stayed the full 4 nights left a day early. Very very disappointing especially after saving and now £160 taken straight off a card and into overdraft. Worse holiday ever

Wine milk & biscuits on arrival was a lovely gesture. Owner contacted to check all was ok which was really nice. Would highly recommend.
