The Rockery Suite in Cumbria & The Lake District offers a cosy and charming stay with stunning views and lovely grounds. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and the warmth of the open fire. The property's location is praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions and pubs. While some guests mention dated decor and minor maintenance issues, the overall experience is one of comfort and relaxation in a beautiful setting.
Most guests found The Rockery Suite to be clean and well-maintained, though there were a few instances of cleanliness concerns such as unwashed cooking trays and a dirty bathroom. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than a common trend.
The location is highly praised for its quietness, beautiful surroundings, and good walking opportunities. It is also appreciated for being close to local towns and amenities, with a pub within walking distance.
Guests generally found the property to be comfortable, with a particularly comfortable bed and cosy living area. Some guests mentioned the property being dark or chilly, but these comments were not prevalent.
The facilities are well-regarded, especially the well-equipped kitchen and the inclusion of a freezer. However, some guests noted that the decor and fittings could use updating, and there were comments about a small TV and a buzzing noise during DVD playback.
Guests mentioned a welcome pack upon arrival, which indicates thoughtfulness from the hosts. However, as gifts are not consistently referenced and their presence cannot be guaranteed, this score reflects the positive mentions without setting an expectation.
The Rockery Suite is an attractive, one-bedroom first-floor apartment in Sawrey Knotts, an impressive mid-Victorian residence, set in three acres of landscaped gardens. Situated between Lake Windermere and Hawkshead, it is within walking distance of Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's spiritual home and museum. The grand building nestles into the rocky hillside, with cosy Rockery Suite tucked away at the rear of the building. It is ideal for couples wanting to escape the busy world for a while.
Climb the staircase and walk into your cosy and comfortable, dual aspect sitting room with dining area and admire the original window shutters, high ceiling and good-sized open fire with original marble surround, cast and tile inset. The fitted kitchen has every convenience for your stay. Your bright and spacious dual aspect bedroom has a king-size bed. You will find a pretty shower room nearby. The apartment has many delightful, personal touches and you will find a door at the rear for private access.
Walk half a mile to Lake Windermere’s lovely western shore and visit the intriguing Claife Viewing Station to admire panoramic views of the lake through coloured panels, before catching the ferry to Bowness to visit the Jetty, a modern museum of boats and steamers. If you fancy a more challenging walk, then why not hike up to Claife Heights with its dramatic views onto Lake Windermere and beyond. Visit Hawkshead to explore its historic Lake District church, where Wordsworth worshipped when he was boy at Hawkshead Grammar School, before browsing the shops and having a bite to eat at one of its excellent cafes and pub. Walk two-minute to the well-loved Cuckoo Brow with its bar and restaurant. At the end of your busy day, relax in the tranquil gardens with a favourite drink and enjoy stunning views towards the lake as it extends southwards, and towards Coniston Old Man in the west.
The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

We only have one small critique and that is the pillows are very lumpy and could do with changing.

The location was great - quiet and out of the main tourist area, but a short distance away from locations to visit. The suite was lovely, had everything we needed and the log fire was perfect, especially for the cold evenings. The welcome pack is a lovely touch and everything had instructions, which were very useful. We did visit the local pub - well worth a visit if you are staying. We would certainly visit again when we are up in the area to stay. Thank you.

thankyou for the great welcome pack. great location and good to have the dog enclosed area, but would have welcomed a gate on the back garden. Also only one bin bag. Otherwise very homely and lots of great little touches for new travellers to the lakes to help them get around. Stayed in the lakes many times but not here, very nice area.
