Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests finding it clean and comfortable. However, some guests noted the presence of cobwebs and a bad smell in the kitchen, suggesting room for improvement in high-level cleaning and odour management.

The location is highly praised for being ideal, with its proximity to the town and local amenities. The convenience of the location, just a short walk from town, is a significant positive factor for guests.

Guests find the cottage comfortable overall, with a cosy wood burner and a comfortable bed. However, some guests reported issues with the boiler noise in the bedroom and the central heating, which affected their comfort during the stay.

Facilities are adequate, with guests mentioning the well-equipped kitchen and the convenience of parking. Nonetheless, there are several comments about the need for updates, particularly regarding the shower, boiler, and general decor, indicating that the facilities could be improved.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as it pertains to gifts or welcome packs. While some guests mention a lack of basic cooking items and a welcome pack, there is no clear reference to gifts being provided or expected.

About this property

Briardale Cottage is a charming early 20th century property, one of six pleasant terrace houses situ-ated in a quiet cul-de-sac yet close to Ambleside’s many attractions. A short stroll will take you to the centre of town for a romantic meal or a relaxing drink in the one of its many restaurants, bars and cafes. Enjoy browsing the shops, catch the latest film at one of the two excellent cinemas or enjoy a river walk through lovely Rothay Park. If you feel more adventurous take on one of the acclaimed Lakeland trails such as the walk to the top of Wansfell, Todd Crag or the more challenging Fairfield Horseshoe and all from your own door-step. After a busy day, relax with your favourite drink, dine alfresco or take time out to admire the lovely views in the peaceful communal gardens, where the table and chairs on your patio await. You will appreciate the peacefulness as there is no passing traffic. Arriving at the cottage, unload the car from your own parking space which sits right by your front door. Enter the enclosed porch entrance and store your outdoor wear. Sit on the leather sofa and feel the cosy warmth of the log burner set into the deep fireplace. Explore further to find your charming shaker style kitchen and dining area with cream units and wooden worktops. The lovely shared rear garden can be reached along a small hallway through the back door. This cottage also benefits from a convenient downstairs bathroom. Climb the stairs to discover your good-sized bedroom with king-size bed and fitted wardrobes with plenty of storage, as well as a contemporary bathroom where you can enjoy a refreshing shower. With so much adventure right on your doorstep, Briardale Cottage offers a wonderful base for your next family holiday to the Lake District.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

We arrived late and no keys in box. In fact instructions advised by Sykes were wrong. No glass door to access security box and box has no handle! Eventually noticed the instructions pinned further up wall. Opened box, no keys! Phoned emergency number and rep came 30 mins later, very pleasant and apologetic. Went to return keys at 10 Sunday, No access and no-one there. Decided to leave in security box. No instructions on pack for such a situation!! I intend writing to Sykes regarding this which seems the only way to communicate with you?

Cottage was nice and clean with everything in very good working order. Very comfortable bed. Good location, close to so many tourist attraction sites. Would not mind booking the cottage again next time I visit the Lake District. We recommend this cottage for someone looking for a quiet but comfortable place to stay.
