Guests say

Holme Ground Cottage is a well-loved property praised for its comfortable furnishings, stunning location with accessible walks, and wildlife-rich garden. Guests appreciate the peacefulness and the ability to explore the Lake District from the doorstep. Some minor maintenance issues and limited kitchen storage are noted, but the overall experience is of a cosy and inviting retreat.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage is generally well-regarded for cleanliness, though some guests noted areas for improvement such as cobwebs and grubby utensils. The majority did not raise cleanliness as an issue, suggesting a high standard overall.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views, and direct access to walks. It is described as peaceful and perfect for nature lovers, contributing to a very high score.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy bedrooms and a warm atmosphere. Some concerns about the thickness of duvets in summer and light curtains affecting sleep slightly lower the score.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. However, maintenance issues like a noisy washing machine, slow hot water tap, and the need for updates in cutlery and crockery affect the score.

While some guests mention a welcome pack with wine and Christmas decorations, there is inconsistency in the provision of the welcome tray as described. As gifts are not consistently referenced, a score cannot be accurately provided.

About this property

A charming and extremely comfortable cottage in a dream setting. This former quarryman’s cottage is surrounded by stunning scenery and the tranquil location makes it a perfect spot to enjoy the local birdlife, red squirrels, inquisitive sheep, deer and rabbits. Families can enjoy walking, watching and pond dipping during the day, and visit some of the area’s best pubs and eateries in the evenings. However, the cottage is just so cosy you might prefer to stay snuggled up in front of the fire. It comes with private parking for 2 cars, and don’t forget the welcome tray with everything needed to revive yourselves with a hot brew or glass of wine.

Hodge Close and its row of traditional cottages is just 3 miles from the village of Coniston. The cottage is entered through the dining room and well-equipped kitchen with slate floor. Through to the charming sitting room with welcoming fire and picture-perfect sofa and chairs. The patio outside is a real suntrap and gives way to nature and the countryside.

Upstairs to the first floor and its two bedrooms; a double with king size bed, and twin room with adult size bunk beds. This floor is also home to the house bathroom with bath and shower over. On the top floor is a second double bedroom with its beams, sloping ceiling and stunning view.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. Love the cottage and location, it’s so quiet with infinite walks from the door! It would be nice if the garden was fenced to provide privacy and stop dogs wandering but apart from that all good

The garden is teeming with wildlife and we saw a red squirrel and a woodpecker right by the back door. This is my second stay and I hope to return. Fantastic location if you want to walk from the door and forget the car and potential traffic. Very helpful owner. Many thanks :)

We would stay again .Property was a little tired, cutlery , crockery and pans could do with replacing , curtain in lounge hanging off hook , one light bulb needs replacing in the lounge , bath panel cracked on corner . Otherwise comfortable as you would expect from a old cottage . The step coming out of the rooms a little dangerous, my 3 year old Grandson came out of the bathroom with his mum missed the step and came down the stairs like a rag doll . Luckily he bounced and did not sustain any injuries. If anyone is going to stay make sure you take water with you for drinking, cooking , brushing you teeth etc water at the cottage is not drinkable . We arrived at 5pm and needed to go into Coniston to get water . After a incredibly long journey by car from Bournemouth we just wanted a cup of tea . It would be a nice gesture to leave 2 bottles for guests on arrival day .
