Guests that stayed at this property said

The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, though some guests noted cobwebs and the presence of insects. The occasional mention of a 'cleanish' state and a 'doggy' smell suggests room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local shops, pubs, and beautiful walks. Its position in the village of Staveley and near Windermere is appreciated by guests.

Guests find the beds super comfortable and the living spaces cosy. However, some mention issues with headroom in the bathroom and the toilet's location, indicating that comfort could be enhanced for taller individuals or those with mobility concerns.

The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but guests suggest improvements such as better lighting, a dishwasher, and updates to decor. The lack of Wi-Fi and issues with maintenance are noted.

Well-furnished throughout, the apartment is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding towns and villages with an abundance of low level walks directly from the door. There are two double bedrooms, a family bathroom and a modern kitchen with a Juliet balcony that looks out over the mill race and beyond to the Kentmere valley and fells. The cosy sitting area has a high ceiling with exposed beams and an electric fire. Staveley village boasts a well-stocked shop, a newsagent and Post Office, local butcher, chemist and a pub serving excellent food. Explore the local town of Kendal with its independent retailers, restaurants and bars as well as a selection of museums and Kendal Arts Centre which offers a cinema and various live performances. The popular towns of Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick are all easily accessible by car or bus, or you can enjoy a gentle stroll along the River Kent to the Mill Yard, whilst the more energetic can pack a picnic and head for the Kentmere Horseshoe circular walk. There really is something for everyone to enjoy at this beautiful Lake District holiday home.

Staveley is situated between Kendal and Windermere and has gained a reputation as the Gateway to the Lakes. It is mainly comprised of picturesque, grey slate buildings, sandwiched between the rivers Kent and Gowan. This once forested area was grazed as early as 4000BC. Iron Age farmers settled first and were followed by the English and Scandinavians and evidence of these early civilizations can be found throughout the region. The village has an excellent range of amenities including a variety of shops, two pubs, craft shops and a railway station. Nearby, Windermere and Ambleside offer a number of attractions such as boat trips on Lake Windemere and a ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park.

The only problem we found was the steps upto property. My mum has mobility issues and struggled going up and down. There are plenty of lovely walks in the area and we found the local pub in the village that serves lovely food although opening times need to be checked. Another lovely place for a pizza and a pint is the Hawkshead brewery.

Honestly everything about this property was perfect (the location, how spacious it was, the comfort of the beds, the kitchen, the views, everything!) and it would have got 5 stars if it wasn’t for the cleanliness. It was the first thing my 8 year old sister noticed when we arrived. There was crumbs in the kitchen on the table and chairs and a lot of the crockery was not clean :( There was hairs in the shower and dog hair in the bed that we noticed on the day we arrived as well. It wasn’t nice getting out dirty crockery and having to pull hair out of the bed. Another small thing to be aware of is how thin the walls/ floors are. We could hear the neighbours from underneath so much it seems like they were in the same room. As mentioned above we were travelling with an 8 year old and when she’d be playing and running around after dinner at 7/8 before bed the neighbours would be banging on their ceilings yet they would be up to really late hours way past midnight keeping us up with loud noises and talking/laughing. Whenever they slammed their doors shut it would quite literally shake the walls in our bedrooms. But as we were out most days this was only a small thing that became an annoyance at 11pm/12am when we wanted to get off to sleep and were being kept up (the little one went to sleep earlier and did wake up a few times because of how loud the neighbours were).

The property had everything we needed, was cosy and warm and was in a great location in Stavely.
