Guests say

Kingfisher Barn in Kendal offers a comfortable stay with its well-equipped kitchen, cosy beds, and a convenient location for exploring the Lake District. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, modern fixtures, and the village's friendly atmosphere, with local amenities like a bakery and brewery within walking distance.

The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with mentions of it being 'very clean' and 'freshly decorated'. However, some guests noted cobwebs, dirty crockery, and insect carcasses, suggesting occasional lapses in thoroughness.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local shops, pubs, and beautiful walks. The village of Staveley is appreciated for its charm, and the property's edge-of-village situation is seen as an excellent base for exploring the Lake District.

Guests find the beds super comfortable and the living spaces cosy. However, some guests mention issues with headroom in the bathroom and the kitchen seating being limited, which slightly detracts from the overall comfort.

The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but there are several comments about maintenance issues such as non-working bulbs, a broken blind chain, and the need for updates. The lack of Wi-Fi and issues with wasps also affect this score.

While guests mention a welcoming stay and complimentary kitchen essentials, there is insufficient information to determine the consistency of thoughtful gestures such as gifts. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

A delightful first and second floor apartment in an enviable position on the outskirts of the popular and picturesque village of Staveley in the beautiful Lake District National Park. Well-furnished throughout, the apartment is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding towns and villages with an abundance of low level walks directly from the door. There are two double bedrooms, a family bathroom and a modern kitchen with a Juliet balcony that looks out over the mill race and beyond to the Kentmere valley and fells. The cosy sitting area has a high ceiling with exposed beams and an electric fire. Staveley village boasts a well-stocked shop, a newsagent and Post Office, local butcher, chemist and a pub serving excellent food. Explore the local town of Kendal with its independent retailers, restaurants and bars as well as a selection of museums and Kendal Arts Centre which offers a cinema and various live performances. The popular towns of Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick are all easily accessible by car or bus, or you can enjoy a gentle stroll along the River Kent to the Mill Yard, whilst the more energetic can pack a picnic and head for the Kentmere Horseshoe circular walk. There really is something for everyone to enjoy at this beautiful Lake District holiday home.

Staveley is situated between Kendal and Windermere and has gained a reputation as the Gateway to the Lakes. It is mainly comprised of picturesque, grey slate buildings, sandwiched between the rivers Kent and Gowan. This once forested area was grazed as early as 4000BC. Iron Age farmers settled first and were followed by the English and Scandinavians and evidence of these early civilizations can be found throughout the region. The village has an excellent range of amenities including a variety of shops, two pubs, craft shops and a railway station. Nearby, Windermere and Ambleside offer a number of attractions such as boat trips on Lake Windemere and a ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park.

Great location for exploring the lakes.

Main bathroom is lacking in head room due to being up in the roof and the shower over the bath is a little awkward due to the slope of the roof.

Ideal location! Everything you would need, especially if weather not good!
