Guests say

Guests have had a delightful experience at Rawfell, praising its comfortable and well-equipped nature, stunning garden, and spectacular views. The property's location is ideal for walks, and the addition of a pool table and spa passes has been appreciated. Despite some minor cleanliness and maintenance issues, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Most guests found Rawfell to be clean and well-maintained, though a few mentioned minor issues such as cobwebs, dog food on the floor, and a slight smell of damp in one bedroom. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is consistently lauded for its beauty and convenience for walking and enjoying the Lake District. The serene garden and views of Langdale are particular highlights.

The property is frequently described as comfortable, with great bedrooms, a warm Aga, and modern bathrooms. The spacious kitchen/diner and leisure areas add to the overall comfort.

Facilities such as the pool table, spa passes, and well-equipped kitchen are highly praised. Some guests noted minor issues with lighting, lumpy pillows, and a lack of instructions for the Aga, suggesting room for improvement.

While guests have not mentioned specific gifts, they appreciate the thoughtfulness of the property's amenities. However, as there are no references to gifts, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

This desirable holiday home is set in a beautiful location in the magnificent valley of Great Langdale, five and half miles from the thriving hub of Ambleside. Enjoying a great sense of peace and privacy surrounded by its own large well-tended garden, Rawfell offers a superb base for families looking for a relaxing retreat in a rural location. The cottage comes with a spacious, warming sitting room offering plenty of seating and complemented by a multi-fuel stove for those cosy nights in. Just behind is a pool table and a selection of books, games and DVDs to keep you occupied on a rainy day. Gather at the dining table in the farmhouse kitchen and crack open a bottle of wine and discuss the plans for week whilst the chef of the group prepares a tasty home-cooked meal, aided by the electric Aga cooker. Those with limited mobility can choose the ground-floor bedroom, which can be arranged as a twin or zip/link king-size on request. Discover three further bedrooms upstairs, comprising two king-size rooms, which both offer lovely views over the valley and garden, while there is also a tastefully decorated zip- link bedroom that benefits from its own en-suite facilities. Relish in the natural beauty of the Langdale Valley from your own extensive garden, which was a former prize-winner in the Lakes Parish in Bloom competition, with a host of delightful trees and shrubs, sweeping lawns and a sunny south-facing patio. There are breath-taking Langdale views all around, visible from most rooms in the house and some of Lakeland’s most dramatic walks are available from the doorstep. A number of pubs serving good food and drink are close by, the nearest being only half a mile away just down the valley. There are some incredible places in this area of the Lake District National Park, with Ambleside, Bowness-on-Windermere and Grasmere all nearby and offering a great range of things to do and see. Explore the woods at Orrest Head where you will discover unrivalled views of the lakes and even stumble upon a Gruffalo or hop in a car and head to Bowness-on-Windermere where you can enjoy a gentle stroll along the lakes or visit the local attractions such as The World of Beatrix Potter. Rawfell is an exceptionally presented cottage, ideal for exploring this stunning area, any time of year.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Our family of eight (three generations) had everything we needed - very well equipped kitchen, spacious dining area, comfortable leisure areas, three modern bathrooms and four spacious comfortable bedrooms. We were fortunate with the weather and so also able to enjoy the garden areas. We were also there for the fell walking, scrambling, climbing and biking facilities which were all on the doorstep. The one very wet day was compensated by the facilities provided at the Langdale Leisure Centre for which three free passes are provided with the accommodation. Thank you to the owners and to Lakelovers.

Very well equipped kitchen. Had a wonderful stay with our family there. Beautiful location in a quiet spot in the valley. Would definitely recommend!

Comfortable and relaxing. Fantastic walks from the door and lots if valuable memories made. Unfortunately we had an infestation of ticks which we found attached to one of our party after enjoying the beautiful garden. The Langdale spa wasn't completed as we were led to believe which was disappointing.
