St Giles is a well-received cottage in Ambleside, praised for its cleanliness, stylish refurbishment, and comfortable furnishings. Guests enjoy the beautiful garden, proximity to local amenities, and scenic walks. While some minor maintenance issues and parking challenges are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the property as very clean, with only a few minor remarks about mud stains near the entrance. The high level of cleanliness contributes to the overall positive experience.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local pubs, cafes, and scenic walks, making it an ideal spot for guests. The central position in the village and easy access to walking routes are frequently mentioned as highlights.

The comfort of the cottage is often highlighted, with guests appreciating the quality of the beds, pillows, and furnishings. Some guests mention the warmth of the cottage as a concern, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with modern and stylish appliances. However, there are several comments about missing or insufficient kitchen utensils, issues with heating instructions, and a need for defrosting the freezer. These maintenance aspects slightly lower the score.

The presence of a welcome pack and thoughtful touches like toiletries and coffee pods are appreciated by guests. While these gifts enhance the experience, it is important to note that such amenities may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Chapel Stile 0.8 miles. Resting in this quaint village of Elterwater, near Chapel Stile in the heart of the Lake District National Park, is this fabulous stone-built cottage, St Giles. This stable conversion, the former 19th century gunpowder works, now offers an ideal base for families looking to explore the wonderful walking opportunities in the surrounding Langdale area, inviting six guests. Climb a series of steps up to the entrance and be welcomed into the traditionally styled open-plan living area where two sofas are situated around the TV and fireplace and the south-facing windows offer pretty views over the village. Within this area, the kitchen, which is certain to encourage some home-cooking, is appointed with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher, along with a washer/dryer, so that you can easily wash and dry your clothes after an action-packed day. Once the evening draws to a close, catch your rest within the King Size bedroom and look forward to waking up to the glorious valley views each morning, followed by a refreshing shower in the bathroom. Completing the interior of St Giles are the two ground-floor bedrooms, One King Size and a further Twin ideal for those younger guests, along with a useful shower room so there is plenty of space to get ready for the day. Enjoy some fresh air in the patio garden, where a picnic bench offers a spot for admiring your surroundings, whilst enjoying a spot of alfresco dining. There is much to challenge the serious walkers with some of the finest high fell walks easily accessible in the centre fells, and for easier days you can enjoy riverside rambles, two good pubs and various tea shops within walking distance. Chapel Stile is about 1 mile away and offers a well-stocked shop for your essentials, or head into Ambleside and shop in two supermarkets and a range of gift shops and boutiques. Further afield the attractions of Bowness-on-Windermere and Coniston are worth visiting, including the family-friendly World of Beatrix Potter and the Old Man of Coniston, which provides a stunning route for walkers, plus the diverse woods of Grizedale Forest is not far either. With so much to see and do, return to St Giles for a holiday of relaxation with your loved ones.

Chapel Stile is a charming little community tucked up in the stunning Lake District National Park. A fantastic hidden gem, Chapel Stile is situated at the bottom of a magnificent valley, bordered on one side by the River Brathay, surrounded by breath-taking landscape, and boasting wonderful slate and stone structures. The village features a historic church built in the middle of the nineteenth century as well as a café, a pub, and a local store that has been around for well over a century. Chapel Stile is a fantastic starting point for touring this National Park because it provides quick access to many interesting vistas and fells. You must visit the charming neighbouring community of Elterwater, where you must simply stand on the Skelwith Bridge and soak in the scenery. Ambleside and Kendal, two wonderful Lake District towns that are close by and have a tonne to offer in terms of vistas, architecture, and activities, can be reached in a short amount of time by car.

Location was just perfect, beautiful peaceful area, perfect for those with a dog. The accommodation was also amazing, a lovely spacious cottage with everything you may need from detailed book’s & information about the area to all the thoughtful little things you may have forgotten! And a welcome pack with treats for all including the hound! Thank you

Upon entry to the extremely cold cottage, we lose another hour trying to fathom the heating which is not as described in the cottage instructions, nor on the Lake Lovers website: the thermostat described in the instructions and the oil fired boiler described on the website no longer exist and there are no instructions how to use the air source heat pump that's replaced them! The hour and a half lost, trying to get into the cottage and then trying to heat it meant we missed our dinner reservation at the Britannia Inn! Despite setting the heating and the water to be permanently on, 24/7, the cottage was only just warm enough and on one evening we ran out of water after just 2.5 showers (after which we discovered the water tank had an immersion heater). In all other respects St Giles is a really, really lovely cottage. All the rooms appear to have been recently decorated and the little touches (the pictures and ornaments, the books and games, etc) make it very homely. The appliances and the fittings in the kitchen, the bathroom and the shower room are all quality, modern, stylish, clean and work really well. The beds are really firm, very comfortable with quality bed linen. The towels are large and still nice and fluffy. The shower gel and shampoo dispensers are a nice touch. The single room for cooking, eating and sitting wouldn't suit everyone but it worked very well for us. There's a few mud stains on the carpet next to the front door but otherwise, and with the obvious exception of the heating, this is a near-perfect cottage.

A lot of “dog friendly” properties seem to be old fashioned and basic, not all dogs cause damage or extra cleaning. Really liked the little extras such as plenty of coffee pods, dishwasher tabs, toilet rolls and bin bags. The garage was a bonus as well, allowing us to charge our EV. Great location in the centre of the village.
