Guests say

Via Alta in Troutbeck offers stunning views and a prime location for exploring Cumbria & The Lake District. Guests appreciate the property's warmth and the immediate access to local walks. While some guests encountered issues, the owner's responsiveness is noted positively. The property's potential shines through, with suggestions for improvements to enhance the overall experience.

Several reviews mention cleanliness concerns, including unclean surfaces, dirty carpets, and the presence of dead flies. These recurring comments suggest that cleanliness is a significant issue, although not all guests raised this as a problem.

The location is consistently praised for its exceptional views and proximity to local attractions. Guests are very satisfied with the setting in Troutbeck, making it a highlight of their stay.

Comfort receives mixed reviews. Some guests found the property warm and comfortable, while others noted issues with beds and sofas. The presence of uncomfortable mattresses and furniture suggests room for improvement.

Facilities and maintenance issues are a common theme, with reports of broken appliances, insufficient kitchen equipment, and maintenance oversights. These factors indicate that the property would benefit from a thorough review and update of its facilities.

While guests do not mention gifts, there is a lack of a welcome/guest book and some basic amenities, which affects the perceived thoughtfulness towards guests' needs. It is politely noted that while gifts are a delightful surprise, they are not guaranteed.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Really good location and amazing views from the property. Issues with WiFi but not the owners fault who tried very hard to resolve the issue. We managed to break the key in the lock but luckily we had the owners number who came around with replacement keys straight away. We could not get hold of Sykes on their emergency number. One minor issue - my daughter stayed in the smaller double room and suggests the bed needs a topper as the bed was uncomfortable due to ridges in the matress. The property was warm and comfortable and we would return.
