Hawkshead 4.4 miles. Deer Leap is a substantial, detached farmhouse situated in an idyllic setting on the outskirts of Satterthwaite, in heart of the Grizedale Forest, Cumbria. With the Lake District National Park on your doorstep, Deer Leap provides the perfect base for families and friends looking to explore the beauty of the region, whether it's a stroll through the lush green forests, a bike ride along the trails or a day out on Lake Windermere. Upon arrival, find ample off-road parking in the driveway, before stepping into your perfect retreat to discover the traditional furnishings and beam ceilings of the open-plan living space. Here you can gather and catch up over a home-cooked meal using the Rangemaster cooker with 6-ring hob and double electric ovens, followed by a movie night in the sitting area with two sofas and Smart TV, in front of the woodburning stove settled in the feature fireplace. Escape to the snug for a quieter spot, complete with a woodburning stove and a Smart TV, or enjoy balmy evenings from the patio garden, featuring a furniture set and outside cooking area. Visit Ambleside and Bowness for boutique shops and excellent Lakeside restaurants, whilst the attractions of Aquarium of the Lakes, the World of Beatrix Potter and the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway should also be on your itinerary. The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside.
