Barnard Castle is a market town in County Durham, set amid the unspoiled scenery of Teesdale. It is built on the site of an ancient Roman fort that had stood on the other side of the river. The castle's ancient remnants still rise over the river and are well worth seeing. Residents and visitors alike refer to the town as 'Barney,' because of its cobblestone streets, yards, and back roads, which were first set up in the 12th century. The neighbouring Bowes Museum is definitely worth a visit and a great way to spend a day roaming about this lovely building and taking in the fascinating exhibits.

Easy walking distance to all tourist attractions, independent shops, pubs and restaurants. Didn't have to use the car once.

It felt like a 5* boutique hotel. Plenty of luxuries, lovely treats, such a comfy bed, we loved the decor and furnishings. I have already recommended Ronnie's Roost to a friend from work. We absolutely loved it and would love to come and stay again. Thank you so much for a special visit. (The only slight issue we had, the hob didn't seem to be working properly.)

However there isn't any parking with the flat, therefore we parked in the street round the back. We went to the car one morning to find that it had been double KEYED down all 4 panels on one side of the car. We have been told this will cost around £750 - £800 to get fixed. We cut our holiday short and packed up and came straight home a this point - as we didn't want to leave either car there any longer. Such a terrible ending to what had been a fantastic break.
