Pippin is a well-presented cottage in Lucker, appreciated for its spaciousness, cleanliness, and quality furnishings. Guests enjoy the excellent outside space and proximity to a nice pub. While some guests mention a welcoming touch with a bottle of wine, it's noted that this is a kind gesture and not a guaranteed amenity. However, there are concerns about an intermittent odour from the septic tank affecting the enjoyment of the garden and local area.
The property is consistently described as very clean, with immaculate rooms and well-maintained outdoor areas. The high standard of cleanliness is a recurring compliment among guests.
The cottage is situated in a beautiful location with a nice pub next door. However, the experience is marred by an intermittent odour from the septic tank, which affects the enjoyment of the location.
Guests find the furniture and beds extremely comfortable, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, there are minor comments about mattress firmness and the need for a window to be open, which was not possible due to the odour.
Facilities are generally excellent, but there are reports of a fridge breaking down and some kitchen items appearing 'tired'. Maintenance issues, particularly the septic tank, have impacted the overall experience.
While a welcoming bottle of wine is mentioned, it is not a consistent theme across the reviews, and as such, cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, a score cannot be provided due to insufficient information.

The main gripe was, as has been mentioned in several previous reviews, the smell from the cesspit. It was intermittent, but it prevented us from sitting outside. We thought the price was on the high side too, but in spite of all of this we had a great time.

The furniture was good quality and the beds extremely comfortable. We were impressed by the immaculately clean rooms and the thoughtful welcome box. The downside was the smell coming from the cesspit next to the cottage. On our second day it was so bad we couldn't open the windows. My elderly mother wanted to go home bit decided to percevere with it. We couldn't sit out in the lovely garden on nice days because although not constant, the smell was on and off all the time and you could taste it. We would loved to have used the wonderful bbq facility but couldn't face doing our food in that smell. It was a real shame because it did put a dampener on our holiday with my elderly parents, 81 and 86 years old. Plus this was the most that we have spent on a cottage over past few years. My mother couldn't sleep very well because she couldn't have the window open. I note from previous comments on trip advisor that the owners have been told about this problem before which makes it even more disappointing because nothing seems to have been done. I dread to think how bad it was in the heat. Like I said, the cottage was amazing, clean and comfortable but please please please do something about the awful smell. I do hope that they contact me with how they are going to resolve the issue
Carol
As soon as we entered the cottage we noticed a terrible stench. It was overpowering. This was definitely not a countryside smell. Because the smell was intermittent we kept the cottage windows closed. At the second attempt of sitting in the lovely garden we gave up because of the smell. We could actually taste it. I was really concerned if this could affect our health so we left a day early. During our stay we spoke to 5 members of staff. The Head of Maintenance said the septic tank a few metres away was burping causing the smell. I had an email from the manager on the 11 August. She will be looking into it and get back to me.
