Guests say

Gamekeepers Cottage in Northumberland receives generally positive feedback for its peaceful location, spaciousness, and the welcoming touches provided. The caretakers, Margaret and Ken, are frequently mentioned for their kindness and helpfulness. While most guests enjoyed their stay, noting the cottage's charm and suitability for both humans and pets, a few raised concerns about cleanliness and maintenance issues.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with several guests finding the cottage spotless and comfortable, while others reported dust, webs, and a need for a deeper clean. The presence of a bat and the mention of a wasp nest indicate occasional wildlife encounters.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to Northumberland attractions. Guests appreciate the rural setting and the easy access to both countryside and beaches, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Most guests find the cottage comfortable, with ample space, cosy log burners, and a well-equipped kitchen. However, some guests mention issues with draughty windows and doors, and a few found the beds and showers less comfortable than desired.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good Wi-Fi. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as ineffective showers, draughty doors, and the need for better heating solutions, which affects the score.

While some guests mention a welcome pack and the provision of logs for the burners, there are not enough consistent references to gifts or special touches to accurately score thoughtfulness. It should be noted that such gestures, when provided, are appreciated.

About this property

Chatton 1.5 miles. One of four beautiful, stone-built cottages in the charming hamlet of Chillingham, just a stone's throw from Chillingham Castle and wild cattle park. This cottage, recently refurbished by its new owner is in a peaceful setting, with leafy roads and a babbling brook on the doorstep, and the imposing castle of Chillingham dominating the backdrop beyond. This cottage would be just the spot for a small family or perhaps as a cosy retreat for couples wanting a peaceful break. This lovely cottage has two good-sized bedrooms, a ground floor bathroom, kitchen, and a comfortable sitting room and separate dining room, both with woodburning stoves for those frosty nights. As a listed building, it has been sympathetically modified yet retains some original features such as a stripped wooden floor in the master bedroom. It is furnished with a blend of antique and good quality modern furniture in keeping with its historic status. To the front there is a shared garden area with furniture, and to the rear is a further garden; the ideal spot to relax at the end of a long day exploring. This holiday home is surrounded by numerous forest walks and cycle tracks, the Heritage Coast is just ten miles to the east with its sandy beaches and many castles, including Holy Island, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Alnwick and Warkworth, plus Alnwick Gardens is a very popular attraction, and well worth a visit. Just ten miles west, the imposing Cheviot Hills can be clearly seen in the distance, a must for avid walkers and cyclists. This pretty cottage is a perfect base for exploring Northumberland and all it has to offer.

The village of Chatton is set amongst scenic countryside and offers stone built houses, a small village green, Post Office, an art gallery and a pub. Close by is Alnwick Gardens, the Northumberland National Park and the Heritage Coastline.

Was just a washing machine. The drawer of the washing machine needs a good clean. Otherwise the cottage was lovely. Very comfortable. Margaret and Ken were very friendly and helpful. We’ll be returning sometime soon.
