The Lodge in Alnwick offers a comfortable and well-presented stay, with its location being highly praised for proximity to town and local attractions. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and the secure garden. While some guests encountered issues with heating and maintenance, recent reviews suggest improvements have been made.
Most guests found The Lodge to be clean and welcoming, with high standards of cleanliness noted. However, some reviews mentioned areas where cleaning could be improved, such as dusty paintwork and cobwebs, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is consistently praised for its convenience to Alnwick town centre, local attractions, and easy access to surrounding areas. The setting is described as beautiful and quiet, contributing to a high score.
Guests generally found The Lodge comfortable, with special mentions of fluffy towels and a homely atmosphere. However, comfort was compromised for some due to heating issues and mattress quality, which affects the score.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped. Nonetheless, persistent heating problems and some maintenance issues, such as non-working radiators and a challenging shower setup, have led to a moderate score.
While some guests mentioned a welcome pack, the reviews do not provide enough detail on the consistency or quality of these gestures to accurately assess thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null.
Surrounded by stunning woodland close to Alnwick in Northumberland, The Lodge is an attractive property which has been lovingly restored to offer spacious and well-presented accommodation which is perfect for a family holiday. The open-plan living space is warm and welcoming with wood flooring and cream walls helping to create a real feeling of light and space. There is ample seating and an elegant dining area, somewhere you can imagine spending a lot of time eating, drinking and socialising. The good-sized kitchen is a delight to spend time in with all the facilities needed to produce high quality food for the holiday party, so no-one will go hungry when they stay at The Lodge! With safe enclosed gardens to the rear, this is the ideal space for eating and drinking alfresco while children and any pets can run around safely. All that running around will no doubt have tired everyone out, so come bedtime, guests can choose from two stylish bedrooms, a double and a twin. Both provide a calming space to rest your weary heads and are the perfect spot to wake up in the morning, before heading out for a day of activities. The picturesque town of Alnwick is nearby which is dominated by its stunning castle and gardens, boasting Europe’s largest cascading water feature. The castle’s other claim to fame is that it was the setting for Hogwarts School as featured in the Harry Potter films. The town also has a good selection of shops and amenities as well as miles of beaches to explore. Nearby coastal towns worth visiting include Alnmouth, Seahouses, Warkworth and Beadnell with trips to Farne Islands popular where you can look out for unusual birds and even seals. Other attractions include Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery. For a holiday to remember for a long time, The Lodge offers a wonderful holiday home in a stunning woodland location close to the coast.
The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.

It was very clean and well maintained and near to the centre of Alnwick with all its pubs, restaurants and shops. The Central Heating system programmer was too complicated - we just used the "Boost Button". Apart from this, we highly recommend "The Lodge". it was a beautiful place to stay.

The cleanliness however leaves a lot to be desired. Dusty paintwork, cobwebs on light fittings, bulbs that needreplacing, a television in the second bedroom which doesnât work, a radiator in the main bedroom not working and a dangerous mobile radiator with a wheel missing. The worst problem was a free standing mirror which fell at a touch, just missing our small dog. Because of allergies I always use my own sheets and towels when Iâm away. Imagine our surprise when taking the sheets from what looked like a nice clean bed only to discover a mattress protector which obviously hadnât been changed for quite some time from the amount of bodily fluid stains which we found. Disgusting! This was replaced after a phone call. We did report this and more to the agent in Seahouses who said they would look into the problem. We have used Northumbrian cottages a number of times without any problems and know they will take our complaint very seriously. mobile radiator

The building has great character from outside but interior is bland, and the deep reveals on small windows together with nearby trees on all sides meant natural light was poor. Equipment provided was good quality and in ample amounts, with good supplies of soap, dishwasher tablet etc However on arrival a burglar alarm set off, not mentioned on information we were sent, nor known by the agent we phoned, however eventually found the code on page 10 of the information folder to switch it off. . Some oil- filled radiators were in place seemingly from a central store and the gas radiators were not working, and no heat in the bathroom . As the weather cooled mid week we explored the boiler controls to find it had been set to hot water only. It was easy to change to get proper heat, including the bathroom. 2 out of 3 light bulbs in one bedroom were not working and no spares could be found. One toilet roll for a week seemed mean
