Cowslip Lodge in Bamburgh is praised for its beautiful setting, comfortable furnishings, and stunning views, particularly of Bamburgh Castle. Guests appreciate the peaceful location, ideal for exploring local beaches and attractions. The lodge is well-equipped and considered a great choice for families and pet owners, though some guests suggest improvements for dog safety.
Cleanliness received mixed feedback. While some guests found the lodge to be clean and tidy, others reported issues with hygiene, mould, and dust. There were mentions of dirty dishes and pans, and some guests felt the need to clean upon arrival. The cleanliness aspect seems to vary between stays.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to Bamburgh, and stunning views of the castle and countryside. It serves as an excellent base for exploring Northumberland's beaches and attractions. The rural setting is also appreciated for its privacy and the presence of local wildlife.
Guests find the lodge comfortable, with cosy furnishings and a warm atmosphere. The beds are generally considered comfy, though there are comments about firm mattresses on bunk beds. The spacious and light design adds to the comfort level, but some guests suggest improvements in blackout facilities for the bedrooms.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the lodge being well-equipped for guest needs. However, there are suggestions for maintenance, such as addressing mould in bathrooms, improving kitchen cleanliness, and providing additional storage. The removal of a log burner for an electric one was a disappointment for some.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the property owner towards the guests. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

I have to say we were a little disappointed that the log burning stove has been removed at Cowslip for a terrible looking electrical one which didnât work, the pictures need to be updated regarding this.

Overall we were really delighted with the lodge however there were a few niggles which others have picked up on in other reviews but don't look like they've been addressed. It's a great size overall but the beds don't appear to be king size as advertised, one of the bunks mattresses was truly awful - you could feel every single spring, some of the towels were stained, lack of hanging storage in the bunk room and main bedroom, the long handle sweeping brush needs replaced, it was damaged and you could easily cut yourself on it, the welcome guide mentioned using coasters but there were none, and the outdoor seating cushions were stained. I think if you're paying a couple of thousand for a weeks holiday in a "luxury lodge" there shouldn't be anything to pick up on. Having said that though we did have a lovely stay, I only mention the above as they ought to be addressed.

The floor was dirty, and left the soles of feet/socks black. There are lot of cobwebs in the high ceilings. I had to clean the kitchen worktops before use as they were covered in a white substance. Some of the pans in the cupboard were also dirty. The windows are so dirty it's difficult to appreciate the views through them. There is also mould in the bathrooms. This is in addition to the unacceptable level of dust and grime found pretty much everywhere else. Added to this is the general state of repair of the lodge. The paintwork is very noticeably chipped/scuffed/dirty in all rooms. Some windows didn't open. The longer curtains were stained/mouldy at the bottom. Unfortunately there are no cup coasters, so trying to protect furniture is difficult, despite the strict instructions in the file. There was no welcome pack, in fact there wasn't even a single toilet roll in the whole lodge, but thankfully we had the foresight to bring some. We also had to find the black bin which had been abandoned at the other side of the park. The previous occupants appear to have used the recycling bin for general waste as a result. To say we are disappointed, especially with the price paid is an understatement. I contacted the owner with the issues and photographic evidence, and requested some form of compensation for the time and effort it took to clean the lodge and launder the towels/linen. As you can imagine this was met with silence. Spend your money elsewhere. Holiday ruined.
