Set in a quiet part of the bustling village of Bamburgh in Northumberland, Whinstone is a traditional stone cottage, ideal for a family on holiday. The sitting room invites guests in straight away with a welcoming seating area and tasteful soft furnishings. You can imagine gathering here to catch up on holiday news, watch TV or simply curl up with a book from the bookshelves. The stylish kitchen is a delight to cook in, so the designated chef will be delighted with the facilities on offer and when it’s time to serve up, there is a well-equipped kitchen/diner all set up ready for a relaxing meal. When it’s time for bed, the double and twin bedrooms are freshly presented, ready for a peaceful nights sleep. In the morning, you can grab a coffee or even breakfast outside in the gravelled patio garden, which has plenty of greenery and patio furniture encouraging guests to sit back and relax. Make sure you find time to plan some activities, so you can really explore the delights the region has to offer. Bamburgh is within a short walk and has a good selection of shops and amenities as well as its infamous castle. Other towns worth visiting in the region include Alnwick, Seahouses (just a few miles away) and you can even head to the border and visit the ever-popular town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Iâve read some other comments regarding the heating being less than ideal and would concur, very intermittent. I certainly wouldnât describe it as cosy. Felt a bit unloved and managed from afar with lots of instructions of donât do this and that - eg keep the bathroom window open, but heated towel rail not working - not very welcoming. The kitchen utensils look like theyâve been thrown into the drawers. And be prepared for power cuts. On a positive note, the location was great and having parking was a definite plus.

It was a great location with excellent access to local amenities, beach, pubs, hotels and restaurants as well as the coastal path. The cottage was really comfortable and very well equipped. We would definitely visit again as would Louis our Lurcher!
