About this property

Settled in the conservation area of the historic village of Norham, in Northumberland, rests this stone-built terraced cottage, Castle Keep. Brimming with character dating back to the 1850's and enjoying an idyllic position close to the border of Scotland, Castle Keep promises a wonderful getaway for families, friends and couples alike. Stepping inside your new home-from-home, you will be welcomed by a delightful hallway, where you can remove any shoes and coats and store your belongings away from the main living areas. Moving through the property, enter into the beautifully-presented sitting room, where a warming woodburning stove provides a cosy ambience from morning, noon to night. A characterful hatch window overlooks the kitchen area, ideal for socialising with your loved ones as you prepare a range of hearty, homecooked meals that can be enjoyed at the nearby dining table. In the summer months, why not make mealtimes an alfresco affair and venture outside to your private garden? Completing the ground floor is a handy cloakroom, whilst a stylish family bathroom can be found upstairs with a walk in shower. When sleep calls, choose between a king-size and a single bedroom, each offering handy storage to unpack your belongings and make yourself at home. The delights of Norham are set a short walk away from your holiday home; take a break from doing the cooking and treat your loved ones to an indulgent meal at one of the local pubs, or stock up on fresh, locally-sourced produce to enjoy from the comfort of your holiday home from the local butchers and bakery. The border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is within easy reach, settled at the northern tip of Northumberland's spectacular Heritage Coast, brimming with an abundance of facinating history to be discovered at the ruins of Berwick-upon-Tweed Castle and the Berwick Town Walls. Avid golfers will delight with a visit to Magdalene Fields Golf Club, whilst those looking for a change of pace can catch the train to the vibrant capital cities of Edinburgh or Newcastle upon Tyne. A holiday to remember awaits at Castle Keep.

The village of Norham is settled amongst the rolling countryside of Northumberland, and is home to a butcher, bakery, Post Office, grocer, newsagent and two pubs, with an award-winning restaurant in nearby Swinton. We had to move utensils etc. around to provide cupboard space for food but there was ample room. The garden is private and secure, however you do need to go up steps to gain full access which some might find an issue. There is a back entrance but it involves walking round and through other gardens. Water pressure is a struggle at times, - takes a while for the bath to fill and don't turn other taps on whilst someone is in the shower! (The hot water is very definitely hot!) Parking isn't an issue as the 'on-road' parking is still outside the cottage, dependent on how busy it is but we never had a problem with space. Overall, an ideal location for exploring the area and one that we would definitely return to.

Would point out however, that the main light in lounge was not working and the downstairs toilet window would not open. All in all though a beautiful cottage and we would recommend to anyone who was looking for a stay in this lovely village.

The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay including one of the most comfortable mattresses we've ever had! Beware - hot water is very hot! The property would benefit from a few minor repairs - nothing major but as follows (really info. for the benefit of the owner) Shower screen bottom seal - leaks badly and there is damp showing in the living room below Bath taps need tightening up Standard lamp has a loose connection (by the single chair) Living room 2 way switching- incorrectly wired Tin opener - useless!! Garden furniture- needs tightening up (did partly sort with tools I found!)
