Alston 3.8 miles. Keepers is a quaint cottage perched on the hillside in the rural village of Nenthead, close to the amenities of Alston. With glorious views over the Nent Valley, Keepers is a wonderful base for couples looking to escape everyday life and experience this beautiful region. After a day of rambling, spend your down time in the sitting room, appointed with two plush armchairs, a TV and an alluring electric fire, ideal for a cosy night in. Follow the exposed beams into the kitchen, where the chef of the couple can rustle up something tasty with assistance from a heap of appliances, with a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer to name a few. On the ground floor, wash away the day with a quick shower or deep soak before getting comfortable in the fabulous double bedroom. There’s also a charming sunroom where you can lose yourself in a good book as you take in the charming garden views. For a blissful countryside break, look no further than Keepers. Alston, the highest market town in England, is located in the North Pennines in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by a distinctive scenery of moorland, hills, rivers, and waterfalls. Oliver Twist and Jane Eyre were both produced by ITV in this charming village with its cobblestone alleys and unique nooks and crannies. Artists and authors have long been inspired by Alston and the North Pennines; W H Auden adored the area, and Alston continues to be an inspiration to the local crafters. The town is home to several unique stores, including galleries and shops with fine crafts. Take a ride on one of the meticulously restored steam or diesel trains on the South Tynedale Railway, which runs from Alston to Slaggyford, through the breathtaking beauty of the South Tyne valley. Additionally regarded as one of England's best salmon rivers, the River Tyne offers local day-ticket fishing. The Killhope Lead Mining Museum offers a terrific family day out with interactive exhibitions. The North Pennines used to be one of the richest lead mining centres in Europe. Jo and Mark were the perfect hostes - nothing was too much trouble. Mark was a mine of information about the local neighbourhood - walks, must-see places to visit etc. We even got to meet his grand-daughter, who was a delight. We'll definitely be back again.

Ideal for a couple. Everything you need, and very comfortable with lovely rural views. The setting is stunning with the sun room overlooking super rural views, and the bird feeders kept well stocked by the owners, Jo and Mark, providing views of many local species at close quarters. Jo and Mark are lovely hosts, really focused on providing an excellent visitor experience. We hope to be returning again to this lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. Thank you both.
