Guests say

Guests have praised The Hayloft for its comfortable beds, welcoming owners, and the delightful hot tub, which is particularly appreciated after exploring the area. The property is noted for its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and the thoughtful touches like a bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival. While some minor issues with heating and maintenance were mentioned, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be immaculately clean, with only a few isolated comments about specific items needing attention. The consistent mention of cleanliness suggests a high standard maintained by the owners.

The location is frequently described as beautiful and quiet, ideal for walks and relaxation. It is also noted for being close to local attractions and historical sites. Some guests mentioned the remoteness, which may not suit everyone.

Comfort is a strong point for The Hayloft, with guests finding the accommodation cosy and the beds comfortable. The hot tub adds to the comfort factor, although there were minor issues with heating that were resolved.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the hot tub being a highlight. However, there were comments about heating issues and a problematic front door lock, suggesting some areas could benefit from maintenance.

Guests appreciated the thoughtful gestures such as welcome gifts including wine and biscuits. While these gifts are warmly received, it is important to note that such offerings are subject to the owners' discretion and may not be a guaranteed feature of every stay.

About this property

Alston 1 mile. A sympathetically restored, terraced barn conversion, set behind the owners’ home and Bed and Breakfast in a rural location, one mile from Alston in Cumbria. This comfortable cottage is ideal for a couple or friends seeking a break in the superb Cumbrian countryside. The Hayloft is mainly situated on the first floor and has a cleverly designed open plan living area, allowing guests to discuss their day in front of the warming open fire, whilst the evening meal is being prepared nearby. Two double bedrooms, one with a handy zip/link bed for flexible sleeping, and a ground floor family bathroom, complete the accommodation. A small shared patio to the side of the cottage presents stunning views over the surrounding countryside and is the perfect place to chill out at the end of a busy day. This area is perfect for walkers and cyclists, or for those who prefer stargazing, as on clear nights, the evening sky’s display of stars is not to be missed. Nearby Alston is a traditional country town with a selection of welcoming pubs serving real ale and good food. The Pennine Way also passes through the town, which is also on the C2C Cycle Route. With lots to see and do within an hour’s drive, including Hadrian's Wall, Beamish open air living museum, Durham Cathedral and the Lake District, this is a great spot for a welcoming break.

Alston is set in the North Pennines in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls, and is England's highest market town. With the drive along the A686 recognised by the AA as one of the world's best drives, and northern Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland, all within easy reach, this makes a superb base.
