Millwood Manor is a charming property with a historic feel, set in a lovely location ideal for exploring the Lake District. Guests have appreciated the spacious grounds, the provision of firewood, and the welcoming touches such as bread and milk. While some guests have encountered issues with cleanliness and maintenance, the manor's potential and character have shone through, offering a unique and memorable experience.
Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including hair on bed sheets, stains on bedding, and grime on surfaces. However, the general cleanliness of the bathroom and kitchen was noted as satisfactory by one guest.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to the Lake District, with lovely walks and nature nearby. It is also conveniently close to local towns and offers a great base for climbing Scarfell Pike.
The property is described as cosy and spacious, with a warm touch provided by firewood. However, some guests mentioned issues with damp, musty smells, and saggy beds, which affected the overall comfort.
The manor is well-equipped but some guests noted the need for better outdoor furniture, a proper barbecue, and more cleaning supplies. There were also comments about non-working vacuum cleaners and the absence of a washing machine.
Guests were touched by thoughtful gestures such as the provision of bread, milk, and chocolate. However, it should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, may not be guaranteed for every stay.

Dalton-in-Furness, a historic settlement, can be found in a little valley on the end of the Furness Peninsula that sticks out into Morecambe Bay. Dalton, the former county seat of Furness, now boasts a diverse collection of establishments catering to its residents. A Victorian drinking fountain, the market cross, and 19th-century stone slabs used for fish drying are just a few of the noteworthy buildings in and around the town's central square. Dalton Castle, a pele tower built in the 14th century, was initially used as a safe haven by the monks of Furness Abbey, a magnificent sandstone ruin in a tranquil forested valley. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the lone Laurel and Hardy museum in Ulverston, and the Haventhwaite Steam Railway to Lakeside (from which you may catch a steam train to Bowness or Ambleside) are all within easy driving distance of the city. In addition to Cartmel, Holker Hall, and Grizedale Forest, the beautiful Duddon Estuary and Duddon Valley are located just to the north of Dalton-in-Furness. Location on the outskirts of Lake District National Park and proximity to both mountains and beaches make this an attractive destination for hikers, bicyclists, and nature lovers.

Whilst the house has enormous potential it is unkempt and in dire need of updating. Communications from Sykes are very poor, this is either a bad reflection on them or the owner or both. We paid a lot of money and expected a better standard. We would never return and would avoid Sykes at all costs.

.. Made us feel like we were in a TV period drama... Lovely location close to Dalton-in-Furness and Barrow-in-Furness as well as being a short drive to the Lake District. During our short stay we climbed Scarfell Pike as a family which was less than an hour away. Overall extremely happy and as already mentioned the property and surroundings are very special. The host was also a great communicator and made our entire stay stress free and an overall amazing experience. Thanks very much!!!

It was the first time in 4 years that my 84 year old mother had seen our children and the reunion was special. The entire group was excited for the stay, and I had shared the listing with them all before we arrived. Overall, the property did not live up to the hype. But again, we all really enjoyed our stay and the house gave us plenty to talk about. Hereâs how it could be improved: 1) We arrived in the dark and the house looked grim and forbidding from the outside. A simple photosensitive outside light would have made the first impression so much warmer. 2) The front door has seen many better days and sticks as you try and open it. It requires a big shove and makes a squeal like a banshee. 3) The house was chilly upon arrival. The thermostats were all set to 17C, so the first impression was of cold and damp. 4) Nice touches like the bread, milk, juice and biscuits, plus fire materials won some goodwill back. If the fires had been laid and the âwelcomeâ basket presented as a âwelcomeâ all could have been forgiven. 5) as per the pictures, the house is arresting and quirky. The hall and the main bathroom are the highlights. Having the dead light bulbs replaced in the ceiling lights would have really shown the hall off in all itâs glory. 6) The bedrooms were from a different time - damp patches, on the walls, musty smellsand saggy beds. 7) Location is great, lovely walks through the woods and the wild garlic carpets and bluebells were delightful. 8) Of the three vacuum cleaners in the property only one worked (one made everything dirtier). 9) The house had pretty much everything we needed, save some cleaning clothes. 10) Broadband speeds were in the single digits, but stable. If you need to jump on a Teams call, you might want to bring a Starlink or OneWeb. Basically, this is a lovely, quirky property that could be amazing. It just needs some TLC and and itâs windows cleaned.
