Cark in Cartmel is a small Lakeland village just two miles from Cartmel, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. Cark is well served by the Furness line railway, and features pretty streamside strolls, lovely walks to the local coastline overlooking Morecambe Bay, two fine traditional old pubs and a scattering of small shops. It is a very short stroll from here to Holker Hall, the stately home of Lord Cavendish, whose house, gardens and deer park are open to the public and also now home to a licensed brasserie The Ilex. Take advantage of excellent walking opportunities amidst beautiful unspoilt countryside or visit The National Hunt Racecourse, the Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition and the Lakeland Motor Museum, all close by. Nearby Cartmel offers quaint cobbled streets littered with antique shops, charming gift shops, welcoming traditional pubs serving real ales, and the nationally acclaimed Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant. The quiet seaside retreat of Grange-over-Sands, with its Edwardian buildings, mountain backdrop, fabulous sea views, promenade and two golf courses is four miles away. Our party was made up of 6 adults and 2 children who loved being able to sleep in the attic room! The house was well-equipped and very clean. Arrival was smooth and the introductory booklet very informative. Cark itself is a small village but has everything you need with a shop, pub and playpark. We found it to be an excellent base to explore the nearby area. Parking at the house is an issue, but we knew about this beforehand and were able to easily find parking around the village. Overall, a lovely house and we had a fab weekend. Iâm sure we will be back!

House is lovely and spacious with very comfortable beds, high quality linens, big soft fluffy towels and well appointed bathrooms. Perfect for our party of 6 ladies to enjoy Cartmel races (shuttle bus 4minutes walk). Impressive kitchen facilities with top quality cookware, crockery, glassware etc. Wine fridge was handy. Good coffee machine too! Everything provided for a perfect stay. Plus the bonus of The Engine pub with its decent food practically next door!
