Discover some of Lancashire's legends; from majestic manor houses set in relaxing gardens to original textile museums transporting you back to a time when cotton was king! Take a trip to the top of Pendle hill and take in the spectacular countryside and spellbinding story of the "Pendle Witches", the most famous witches in the land. Close by is Whalley Abbey, whose 'monks' will give visitors an insight into how their predecessors used to live and work, whilst Clitheroe is also well worth a visit with its recently revamped museum and fine castle. Further days out include trips to the National Trust’s best kept secret, Gawthorpe Hall, a striking Elizabethan mansion with a rich history or pop on your walking boots and follow the scenic Stream & Steam Trail through the heritage of Barnoldswick. Fence, a picturesque village in Lancashire, is famed for its stunning church, St Anne's Church, and is near to the towns of Nelson and Burnley. There is a small pub and a shop, but the remainder of the village is quiet and surrounded by charming residential properties. Burnley, with its superb assortment of shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as the magnificent Thompson Park and Railway, is easily accessible.
