The Old Stables in Cumbria & The Lake District receives high praise for its spaciousness, peaceful setting, and dog-friendly environment. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to local beauty spots, pubs, and shops. The comfortable furnishings, powerful showers, and well-equipped kitchen are frequently mentioned, alongside the warmth of the underfloor heating and wood burners. While some minor maintenance issues and navigational challenges are noted, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found The Old Stables to be extremely clean and welcoming. There was, however, a single mention of the bathroom cleanliness not being up to standard, which slightly impacts the overall high score.
The location is highly praised for its peacefulness and proximity to nature, with plenty of opportunities for walking and hiking. The property's setting near both the Lakes and Dales is appreciated, although some guests noted difficulties with navigation and incorrect postcodes.
Guests consistently mention the comfort of the property, highlighting the spacious living areas, comfortable beds, and the cosy atmosphere provided by the fireplace and underfloor heating.
The facilities at The Old Stables are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and powerful showers. Some guests suggested improvements such as sharper kitchen knives and better outdoor furniture, and there were isolated issues with maintenance.
While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is insufficient information regarding the presence of welcome gifts or additional thoughtful touches provided by the hosts to accurately score this category.
Kirkby Lonsdale 3 miles. The thoughtful conversion of an old stone-built barn and stable block, dating back to 1746, has resulted in this wonderful detached property of much character. Situated in a pretty position next to Fleshbeck stream in the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, The Old Stables enjoys views over a wooded dell, teeming with bluebells in the spring, and even the occasional deer! Upside down to take advantage of both the pretty views and the many original exposed timbers, the conversion has been carried out to the highest possible standard including solid oak floors upstairs, and underfloor heating throughout. The open plan living area has French doors out onto a small balcony, overlooking the garden area and woods. A magnificent conversion, warm and welcoming, ideal for any time of the year. Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 916 and 9985, and a short distance from Ref. 10255, together they sleep 22.
Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval âDevil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.

There were no instructions on how to operate the heating system. 2. The TV was small compared to the size of the room

Clean and tidy upon arrival and the underfloor heating and showers we lovely. Only 2 things I would suggest is maybe a bit of a heads up for the drive from Kirkby Lonsdale to the cottage. It's a proper single track road and needs to be navigated with care. And maybe consider a visitors book so that people can leave feedback and suggestions for local places to visit etc. Have found that invaluable in other properties. Other than that a fantastic week was had. Thank you
Vicky
Bathrooms clean. Surrounding area lovely and peaceful, neighbouring properties very quiet. I would like to point out though that the what3words provided on the Sykes listing is incorrect, it takes you to a property further up the road. If it hadnât been for the owners precise directions we wouldnât have noticed this. This is the correct what3words for the property ///mistress.infringe.tweaked
