Guests say

Billy Whiskey's is a well-loved cottage in the Peak District, praised for its comfortable furnishings, tasteful decor, and well-equipped kitchen. The property is situated in a convenient location within Tideswell, offering easy access to local amenities and scenic walks. Guests have enjoyed the thoughtful touches, including a generous welcome hamper. While there are mentions of safety concerns regarding the garden and a tricky front door lock, these are outweighed by the overall positive experiences and the attentive nature of the host.

Guests consistently describe the property as immaculately clean and well-maintained, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the cottage.

The cottage is appreciated for its quiet yet central location in Tideswell, with easy access to shops, pubs, and local attractions. Its proximity to walking routes and the Peak District's highlights contributes to its high location score.

Reviewers frequently mention the comfortable beds, cosy living spaces, and the warmth provided by the Aga and central heating, suggesting a very comfortable stay for guests.

The property is lauded for its well-appointed kitchen and social spaces. However, concerns about the safety of the garden area for pets and children, and issues with the front door lock, have led to a slightly lower score in this category.

Many guests have expressed gratitude for the thoughtful welcome hamper and other provisions. While these gifts are highly appreciated, it is important to note that such offerings are subject to change and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District National Park in the small village of Tideswell, sits this impressive cottage, Billy Whiskey's. Enjoying a blend of rustic and contemporary features, this historic property is a former shop dating back to 1729, and takes its name from the first shop keeper, Billy Whiskey. The property has been thoughtfully renovated and now offers families and friends a pet-friendly dwelling and wonderful base to explore the countryside. Leave your vehicle in a roadside space before making your way inside to discover the shaker-style kitchen, with an AGA cooker to whip up heart-warming meals. There's also a sitting area with a cushioned sofa and wall-mounted TV to relax with a cold beverage whilst dinner is cooking. Adjacent, you will find the dining room with an exposed stone wall and beams; here you can gather together for meals and enjoy a pack of cards for some family fun. Climb upstairs to the first floor to unwind in the sitting room, where a woodburning stove gently heats the space as you relish a glass of wine. The first floor leads out onto the rear garden, so why not carry the conversation onto the outdoor decking, as your furry friend stretches out in front of you? As day draws to night, retire inside and sink into the tub for a bubble-bath, as the Velux window reveals the night sky. Next door, is the master bedroom, hosting a king-size bed and to discover two more bedrooms, venture to the second floor for another king-size and a twin bedroom, serviced by a shower room. In the morning, awaken tired eyes with a steaming cup of coffee in the garden, ready for a day of exploring. Just paces away is the local pub, The Star Inn, where you can sample real ales and home-cooked meals, or pop into the convenience store for your own ingredients. Jump in the car to visit local attractions, including Eyam Museum to learn about the Plague, stroll along the wonderful Water-Cum-Jolly Dale and test your stamina on an incline walk up Mam Tor. Visit the Spa town of Buxton; here you can enjoy live entertainment at the grand Buxton Opera House, if that's not for you, delve underground into the two-million-year-old Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park. Also, within easy reach and worth a trip, is the town of Bakewell to taste the renowned Bakewell Tart at a café or tour the stately home of Chatsworth House. To treat the ones who mean the most, stay at Billy Whiskey's.

Tideswell is a small town located in the Peak District National Park. The community is notable for its well dressing and carnival wakes, as well as its splendid church dedicated to St John the Baptist, nicknamed as "The Cathedral of the Peak." With rocky peaks to the north, mild slopes and dales to the south, and Millers Dale close outside the settlement, there is good walking. Mam Tor and Castleton are just a few miles distant, while Buxton, a prominent spa town, is only a 15-minute drive away.

Very warm with the Aga, we didn’t need to have heating on much or light the fire. Everything worked and kitchen well equipped.

Every facility you could wish for. Lovely bedding and some nice welcome gifts. Never visited Tideswell before but it’s a beautiful village with lots of places to eat and walks in all directions. We did Tideswell Dale through to the Monsal Trail, also the Longshaw estate. Stunning scenery and fairly easy walking. Overall a super relaxing weekend, walking, playing games and eating far too much. (I’d suggest some earplugs if you’re a light sleeper as the church is gorgeous but the bells are loud!)
