Guests say

This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

The Netty, a quaint cottage in Buxton, receives mixed reviews. Guests appreciate its well-equipped nature, cleanliness, and ideal location for walking and pub access. The welcome gestures are noted, and the property is dog-friendly. Some guests mention issues with comfort, internet connectivity, and owner interactions, but overall, the cottage is praised for its charm and suitability as a peaceful retreat.

Cleanliness

The cottage is generally described as clean and tidy, with one review specifically noting that everything was well-provided and clean. No negative comments about cleanliness were found.

Location

The location is highly praised for being quiet, offering lovely views, and being close to a village pub and walking areas. Its position as the highest village in England is a unique selling point.

Comfort

Comfort receives mixed feedback. While some found the cottage warm and comfortable, others experienced issues with cold temperatures and an uncomfortable mattress. The lack of curtains or blinds in the lounge was also a concern for privacy and comfort.

Facilities

Facilities are generally good, with the property being well-equipped and offering a welcome basket. However, there are mentions of missing TV in the bedroom, issues with internet connectivity, and heating control problems, which suggest room for improvement in maintenance.

Thoughtfulness

Guests mention a welcome gesture upon arrival, which indicates thoughtfulness. However, as gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, this is a pleasant addition rather than a standard expectation.

About this property

Buxton 5 miles. Located in the small village of Quarnford, near both Buxton and Leek lies this delightful single-storey cottage, The Netty. Ideal for a couple's getaway, the property sleeps two people, providing an intimate base suitable for a Peak District adventure. This delightful dwelling has ample parking to the left of the property and an enclosed private patio which is the perfect place to watch the sunrise/sunset with views down the Manifold Valley. Heading through the double patio doors you'll reach the welcoming sitting room, directly leading into the open-plan kitchen/diner, providing all amenities you could need to cook up a romantic meal for two. Moving through to the ground-floor double bedroom and en-suite, the views continue, offering the chance to relax and unwind before another day of sightseeing. With restaurants and a local pub within walking distance of the cottage, you'll also find a wealth of convenience stores and supermarkets within four miles of the village, where you can stock up on key essentials for your stay. Situated within the Peak District National Park, there are plenty of walking routes and trails for avid walkers, with the chance to hike up The Roaches or take in the views of Lud's Church and the Hanging Stone. For an interactive activity, you'll have plenty of options to choose from, including the Buxton Visitor Centre and Crescent Heritage Experiences, offering artistic and cultural events, Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park with guided tours of its two-million years of heritage, or sail across the Rudyard Lake. For a fun-filled day beyond the local area, all accessible by car, head over for an exhilarating visit to Alton Towers, visit Avro Heritage Museum for an educational trip, or embark on a historical experience, taking in the remains of Magpie Mine, originating from 1740. With plenty of local attractions, scenic views, and tourist hotspots to visit in the area, choose The Netty as your Buxton home from home.

The bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs, which are always 28 degrees Celsius, originally drew the Romans to the town. The Palladian beauty of today's Buxton was constructed and developed during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, and includes the majestic semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens, and The Opera House. Visitors can still enjoy these spectacular buildings and gardens, as well as the complete programme of the Opera House and annual music and arts events. There is excellent walking nearby, with rocky peaks to the north and pleasant hills and dales to the south, and a variety of charming towns and villages, such as Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale, are strewn throughout. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, both of which are within easy driving distance, are must-sees for anybody visiting this area. A fantastic starting point for visiting the Peak District.
