Guests say

Woodpecker Cottage in Chinley is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location for walks and local amenities. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including welcome gifts and a comprehensive information file. The property boasts cosy living spaces, well-equipped kitchens, and en-suite bedrooms, making it a top choice for a relaxing Derbyshire getaway.

Guests consistently commend the cottage for its spotless condition, noting the high level of cleanliness throughout the property.

The cottage's location is celebrated for its excellent walking opportunities, proximity to local pubs, and the overall beauty of the surrounding Peak District.

Reviewers find the cottage very comfortable, highlighting the cosy living room, underfloor heating, and comfortable beds with lovely views.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and cosy log burner. However, a few minor maintenance issues such as cracked bathroom tiles and a cooker in need of an upgrade slightly lower the score.

The owners' thoughtfulness is evident in the welcome gifts and detailed information file provided, although it is politely noted that such gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

A superb cottage providing classy accommodation in a really peaceful location with wonderful Peak District countryside all around.

Part of Eccles House, a lovely Georgian Mansion, Woodpecker is a really classy and elegant cottage, set in the village of Chinley. With stone-flagged floors, beamed ceilings and a log burning stove, luxury echoes through this beautiful holiday accommodation. Sit back and relax in the spacious lounge in front of the roaring fire with a good book and a glass of wine. The quality kitchen/diner and truly comfortable bedrooms with ensuites make Woodpecker a fantastic base whilst you explore the surrounding attractions. In the morning while enjoying your breakfast on the patio, do a bit of birdwatching as Woodpeckers and other birds that live in the grounds and woodland fly above, before heading into the village centre where you’ll be met with a bunch of local independent shops and two fantastic pubs. Wander a little further and you’ll be on one of the footpaths leading through the Peak District, but don’t forget to stop and admire the fantastic views. A short car journey away you can be in the spa town of Buxton, with it’s amazing Opera House and beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture. Carry on and you’ll soon be at Peveril Castle, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, the lovely market town of Bakewell or Castleton’s Blue John caverns, to name just a few.

Whatever you end up doing, make sure you leave some time to call in for a drink at the Old Hall Inn before heading back to Woodpecker to recharge.

Stayed with my husband, parents and 2 pooches. Warm welcome of fresh flowers, fresh eggs, and a bottle of wine. Cottage is lovely and well equipped. Location is great. 15 minute walk into village, with 2 pubs, very friendly staff and dog friendly. Would definitely recommend

A lovely comfortable cottage with just a few maintenance niggles. In a great location for walking. Easy parking off-road and pleasant outdoor seating areas in the courtyard. Two good pubs with excellent food within easy walking distance (torch needed if out after dark).
