Bamforth Cottage is a charming and cosy property in the picturesque Peak District, appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen with an Aga, scenic walks, and a warm atmosphere. The cottage's character and location near amenities and pubs are highlights for guests.
Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including unclean sofas, stained mattresses, and a general need for a deeper clean. However, some guests found the cottage to be clean upon arrival.
The cottage is praised for its beautiful location with easy access to walks and local amenities. The scenic views and proximity to towns are well-regarded, although parking on a busy road was a concern for one reviewer.
Guests find the cottage cosy and warm, with a well-furnished setting. However, comfort is marked down due to mentions of uncomfortable sofas and a creaky bed in the main room.
The property is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and the unique experience of using an Aga. Some guests noted issues with maintenance, such as the need for a gate for pet safety and the lack of cleaning equipment.
There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate the level of consideration for guests' experiences.
Resting just outside of the pretty village of Holmbridge, in the West Yorkshire countryside, is this delightful mid-terrace cottage. Internally, the property has been renovated into a modern holiday home, whilst still retaining its wonderful period features with the exposed beams, hardwood flooring and original stone walls. Bamforth Cottage is a delightful choice for a rural break to the countryside.
The small village of Holmbridge is situated just 1.5 miles from the traditional Pennine market town of Holmfirth, within the beautiful Holme Valley. The village has two pubs, a cricket club, a convenience store, a church and its own vineyard which offers tours, tasting and great food. In 2014 the Tour de France passed through the village and the challenging climb of Holme Moss is nearby. Close by, the town of Holmfirth has old stone cottages, winding streets, parks, shops, bars, restaurants and the infamous music venue, The Picturedrome. The Holme Valley hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including the now famous Festival of Folk (May), The Arts Festival (June) Food and Drink festival (September) and a great Music Festival (October). These main festivals run alongside and with other smaller festivals and weekends, such as the Film Festival, The Macmillan Art Exhibition, the Christmas markets, The Scarecrow Festival and, of course, the big cycle race ‘Le Tour De Yorkshire’, this is a wonderfully cultural place to visit. The town was made famous as the setting for the long-running comedy series Last of the Summer Wine. The nearby Colne Valley is home to fictional Skelthwaite from the Where the Heart Is series and, within reach, is the wonderful Peak District National Park – the setting for many picturesque and breathtaking scenic views. The town of Huddersfield and the bright lights of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield are all within a short drive, making this an ideal base for exploring this exciting and exquisite area of Yorkshire.

It is a charming and beautifully made home and was perfect for us and our two dogs. We could not understand previous reviews that talk about cleanliness. It was spotless. We could not fault it. Thank you Claire and Johnathan
James
The cleanliness of the cottage really needs to be looked at as we had to carry out a clean, hoover and make the beds upon arrival. The dish washer and washing machine were both full and washing airing on the dryer! We have logged a complaint but as of yet not had a response. The list of complaints is to much to type

This cottage could be really beautiful and on the surface there are clean parts to it, the bed etc but the overall cleanliness is very poor. It smells damp as soon as you walk in, carpets are filthy as is the sofa. It just felt very neglected and unclean. Basic facilities were missing (loo roll) fire wasnt cleanedout and no fire lighters. No welcome basket, no book to write in. Just zero thought and effort. We wouldn't return again im afraid.
