On the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines, in the picturesque Holme Valley, is the historic, traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth. Holmfirth, made popular by the television series The Last of the Summer Wine, is not only Compo and Nora Batty's stocking town! The best live music venue in the North of England, the "Picturedrome," is in the heart of the city and draws many well-known bands. The 2014 Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire pelotons both passed through this small Holme Valley village on their way up the famous 524-meter Holme Moss climb, which is located two miles away. Cycling's three-time Olympic medalist Ed Clancy was raised on these hills. In addition, Holmfirth offers parks, a good public pool, a fitness centre, as well as a few grocery stores and eateries. The locals are welcoming, the streets are charming, and the surroundings are breathtaking. It's also simple to go to the Peak District National Park, which has moors, dales, woodlands, lakes, and reservoirs. A short picturesque drive will take you to the Upper Derwent Valley, home of the magnificent Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and the site where the renowned 617 "Dambusters" Squadron trained for their daring raid on the Ruhr region in 1943. No problem with access or parking in our 4x4. Hardly saw any traffic passing on the lane all week. There was everything we needed to enjoy our stay in the cottage-very comfy. Although 'detached', the patio garden was a lovely, sheltered sun trap and well worth using. The path to the lake and fields was a bonus to explore. The cottage is well located for trips out and about and we particularly enjoyed Sunday roast at the Pickled Pheasant; the Yorkshire Sculpture Park; Holmfirth Vineyard and the National Coalmining Museum. We highly recommend Rivendell Cottage and the Holmfirth area.

The locality has stunning views and lots of pubs, restaurants and places to visit. We used the cottage mainly as a base for walking, so many places to go. Although we didn't meet the owners they were helpful and readily available to answer any queries.

The cottage is lovely, welcoming, and clean with stunning views. The kitchen is big and very well equipped with lots of extras, including a coffee machine and coffee pods. I loved that both bedrooms have their own bathroom, with one being an on suite, which I absolutely loved. They are both spacious, and the beds are very comfortable. My favourite place to sit with a coffee in the morning was the snug just off the lounge. I felt very relaxed staying here and am already looking at dates later in the year to go back.
