Galley Hill Garden Studio, a gorgeous single-storey cottage, in the countryside of Selborne near Petersfield and Alton, Hampshire. The property welcomes one dog, making it the perfect choice for those travelling with a four-legged companion wishing to explore the surrounding natural beauty in the heart of the South Downs National Park. With miles of footpaths from the door step it is possible to access the very best of countryside the region has to offer. Set on one level, Galley Hill Garden Studio provides a homely and welcoming environment for your countryside retreat. Enjoying unrivalled views and enjoying access to rural pasture the property offers an ideal retreat for those wishing to immerse themselves in nature. A small but well-appointed kitchenette allows for easy preparation of meals, a good sized dining table which comfortably seats four and outside space with another dining area complete with small, solid-fuel barbecue and fire pit. As the day winds down, relax in the sitting room with a large sofa and chair, a TV for entertainment, and a selection of books, board games; the table can double as a workspace should it be required. When it's time to retire for the evening, you can find twin beds in a good-sized bedroom with blackout blinds, quality cotton sheets, feather pillows, down duvets and additional blankets, as well as an additional single bed available in the second bedroom which is accessed via the main bedroom. Finishing off the interior is a large bathroom with a bath, standalone shower, sink and loo, with ample hot water and good quality towels provided. Within a short walk (approx. 9 minutes) across the fields, guests can enjoy the small village of Selborne, where The Selborne Arms pub serves lunch and evening meals and has a welcoming fire for much of the year. The Gilbert White museum and café, home to the renowned naturalist, Reverend Gilbert White, at Gilbert White’s House & The Oates Museum, serves morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea; the village also has a pottery, a gallery and a few shops worth a wander. The charming St. Mary the Virgin church, a Grade-I listed building that dates back to the late 12th century and leads down to the Lythes, bodies of water used to farm fish by the monks of the local Priory. Beech woods, bluebells, chalk downland with cowslips, and later on, rare orchids can be discovered. Selborne is a walker's delight; spending time here, it becomes very clear why Gilbert White chose to make the village his home. Literary buffs will be thrilled to find that Jane Austen's former home in Chawton is only three (walkable) miles away, allowing for a glimpse into the life of one of England's most cherished authors. For a unique family outing, venture to the Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium, or explore the historic coastal city of Portsmouth, brimming with maritime heritage. The attractive rural village of Alton lies on the western fringes of the Peak District in lovely moorland countryside, between the market towns of Leek and Ashbourne. The village offers a post office, village shop and pubs serving food. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling with miles of woodland trails and moorland hikes to enjoy. Dovedale and the limestone Churnet Valley are on the doorstep and The Manifold Trail is close by. There is easy access to many of the area's attractions including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Lyme Park (NT) as seen in TV’s Pride & Prejudice and the NT Ilam Estate. A great touring base for all the Peak District - and Alton Towers with its many rides and attractions is just a short drive away!
