About this property

Alresford 3.7 miles. Resting near Alresford in the village of Cheriton, Hampshire in the South Downs National Park is The Roost. This fabulous, dog-friendly, ground-floor holiday home benefits from a countryside setting, off-road parking and an open-plan living space welcoming six guests, perfect for families and friends. Cross the threshold into your new home-from-home and unwind in front of the TV while the designated chef of the group becomes acquainted with the fully-equipped kitchen. Gather around the dining table to tuck in while the woodburning stove provides a comforting glow; later step outside to delight in evening drinks as the sun sets over the encompassing countryside. When stars fill the sky, head inside to wash away the day’s adventures in the family bathroom before retiring for some much-needed rest and relaxation in one of three bedrooms; choose from a super-king-size or two twin, one of which is zip and link for added flexibility. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic dwelling, treat your loved ones to a delicious meal at The Flower Pots Inn, a traditional pub famed for brewing their own beer; alternatively travel to Alresford to stock up on essentials at the local stores or visit the 15th century pub The Globe on the banks of the Old Alresford Pond. The Roost lies in the South Downs National Park which is known for its chalk hills, wooded areas and wealth of walking and cycling opportunities including the South Downs Way, which stretches 160 kilometres from Winchester to the cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Eastbourne. Spend the day in Winchester, tour The Great Hall, Winchester Cathedral, Wolvesey Castle, the imposing remains of the 12th century palace and the National Trust site of Winchester City Mill which runs family activities and displays historic exhibits. Venture further afield to the coast in Southampton, spend a sunny day on Weston Hard Beach or stroll around the harbour which houses a variety of eateries and bars before visiting SeaCity or Solent Sky Museum. Experience the countryside and its surrounding attractions at The Roost.

The Georgian market town of Alresford consists of two settlements: the Doomsday Book-mentioned Old Alresford, and the modern-day New Alresford. In the 1860s, the two settlements were linked by a railroad that carried the town's famous Watercress to London. From Alresford to Alton, the "Watercress Line" still travels through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Now this quaint and beautiful town is ideal for a leisurely stroll thanks to its colourful Georgian homes, independent and specialised stores, and eclectic mix of charming inns, trendy cafes, and classic tea rooms. Take a stroll along the riverbank and check out the 13th-century Fulling Mill, or spend some time at Old Alresford Pond, which is teeming with otters and other waterfowl. The Millennium Trail is a network of walkways that winds through and connects the town, providing a great opportunity to learn about and appreciate the local culture and history.

The enclosed garden is great for kids and dogs. Beds are so comfortable we all slept like logs. The Roost was clean and tidy and kitchen is well stocked with what you need. There are peacocks running round along with a few hens.

Hosts very welcoming and very helpful. Provided lots of info about the surrounding area. Also provided plenty kindling and fire wood for the log burner which was fabulous. The peacocks weren’t too noisy

We had a lovely short stay and are looking forward to coming back. We didn’t get chance to meet the owners but would like to pass on our thanks.
