Freemantle Lodge is highly praised for its beautiful, peaceful location and comfortable, homely feel. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, the welcoming atmosphere, and the property's suitability for walkers and nature enthusiasts. The presence of wildlife, including red squirrels, adds to the charm. Some guests mention minor maintenance issues and the challenge of accessing the property due to its remote setting.
The property is generally described as clean and well-presented. However, a few guests noted areas in need of a deeper clean, particularly the kitchen and bathroom, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is consistently lauded for its stunning views, tranquillity, and proximity to walking trails. Its remote and peaceful setting is ideal for guests seeking a rural experience, contributing to a high score.
Guests find the property comfortable, with soft beds and cosy sofas. The homely feel and warm atmosphere contribute to a high level of comfort, despite some comments about draughty doors.
The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests are pleased with the facilities overall. However, some guests suggest improvements to the doors and windows, and mention worn sofas and the need for minor repairs, which affects the score.
While guests are pleasantly surprised by welcome baskets and the property's dog-friendly amenities, there are not enough references to consistent thoughtful gestures or gifts to accurately score this category.
Freemantle Lodge is tucked away into a secluded location of a working farm, wrapped in beautiful views of the countryside. On the grounds of a 300-acre estate, amongst The English Heritage site of Appuldurcombe House with its Capability Brown Gardens, this is a place worth visiting. Well-suited for families or friends, this cottage has been beautifully designed with an abundance of charming features including a monumental archway and a water well situated outside. The ground floor is filled with charm, commencing from the dining room with its pew seating and feature windows. The kitchen brings a modern feel to the property, and the lounge is a homely place to settle down, with leather sofas, a light airy ambience and a front-facing outlook. The first-floor bedrooms continue the essence of tradition and charm, each equally as stylish, with a neutral colour scheme to welcome you home after a busy outing. The master suite is tied together by a dressing table and wardrobe, while the twin room looks out onto the beautiful hillside, over the working farm and sheep which roam around. With natural beauty right on the doorstep, you will want to make the most of the enclosed garden, your own little place to sit and take in the idyllic scenery. There is even a public footpath should you wish to stroll into the village for a taste of the local amenities. In the village of Godshill, there are two pubs to enjoy: The Taverners and the Griffin Public House. The seaside resort of Ventnor is just a short drive away and offers everything that you could ask for including heart-warming botanical gardens and a sandy beach for a sunny adventure. Why not pay a visit to the Isle of Wight AONB and the Hamstead Heritage Coast. Freemantle Lodge is a unique cottage settled in an excellent Isle of Wight location.
Perched on the south coast of the Isle of Wight is the charming village of Wroxall which boasts a welcoming gastropub, The Star Inn, as well as a convenience store. Here you will also find a Donkey Sanctuary, where you can meet the rescued donkeys, followed by a cup of tea and slice of cake at the on-site cafe! Hidden away in acres of woodland is the Appuldurcombe House, a historical landmark well worth a look. Unfortunately, the WiFi was sporadic for the first few days, and dropped out altogether for the last 4 days of our stay. Also, the directions to the cottage were not very clear (especially to those unfamiliar to the area). The track leading to the first gate at the entrance to the drive is not marked as Appuldurcombe Road, we thought it was a private farm track and spent a long time driving around until we eventually asked a dog walker!! - we would advise amending directions to something like "Drive down Appuldurcombe Road and turn right immediately after the carpark, follow the track to the gate for Freemantle Lodge"

The views are stunning. Ideal if you prefer a get away from it all holiday. The WiFi isn't great but given the location this shouldn't come as a surprise. We have stayed before and will definitely book this property again. It would be good to have a visitor book where recommendations could be posted as the island has lots to offer. The welcome pack requires slight amendment as food waste is now not recyclable and there is no need to separate recyclable items. This is our 20th year of visiting the island

It is well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone.
