The Old Well House in Cornwall receives high praise for its unique charm, welcoming hosts, and thoughtful touches. Guests appreciate the property's tranquility, its proximity to local attractions, and the inclusion of modern amenities. While most reviews are positive, highlighting the comfort and the property's character, one review raises concerns about cleanliness and maintenance.
Most guests found the property well-kept and comfortable. However, one review mentioned issues with cleanliness and a damp smell, which suggests room for improvement in this area.
The location is consistently praised for being central, peaceful, and close to local attractions, making it an ideal base for exploring Cornwall.
Guests generally regard the property as comfortable and cosy, with a few mentioning a particularly firm mattress and a potentially hazardous bathroom setup.
The property is celebrated for its unique features, well-equipped kitchen, and entertainment options like Netflix and a music room. One negative review mentioned maintenance issues, slightly lowering the score.
Many guests were delighted by the thoughtful gestures, such as welcome gifts and local recommendations from the hosts. While these gifts are warmly received, they are a gracious bonus and not a guaranteed amenity.
St Day 1 mile, Porthtowan & Portreath beaches just a short drive away. Set within the private grounds of a historic country estate near the owner's home in Scorrier, Cornwall, is this detached three-storey character property, The Old Well House. Boasting a balcony with furniture, a quirky décor and a music room and library, this cottage provides a unique holiday experience in a beautiful area of Cornwall. Approach by private lane, happen upon your home-from-home, and enter the stone and slate cottage into the kitchen, with an electric oven and hob, even a handy dishwasher to help with the cleaning up. Steps lead up to the living/dining room where you can dine on your feast at the dining table for two, before settling down on the sofa to watch the Smart TV while the woodburning stove crackles nearby. Take the spiral staircase to the first floor where the double bedroom lies; rest your head on the plush bed, and when you wake freshen up in the en-suite shower room. From here, make your way through the doors to a private balcony, equipped with garden furniture so you can enjoy the far reaching rural views with a glass of wine in hand. From the exterior spiral stairs you can make your way down to the graveled garden area which also has seating. Completing the cottage is the distinctive snug on the lower-ground floor, home to a sofa and an electric fire, perfect for cosying up with a loved one, along with books, games and record player with selection of records to keep you entertained. If you prefer a night away from the kitchen take a walk along country lanes (torch provided is advisable) to Vogue where you will find The Star Inn which boasts good food. The perfect escape awaits you at The Old Well House. Note: This property can be booked with Ref: 1007150 together sleeping six guests.
St Day was the mining centre for mid-Cornwall until Redruth took over, and the terraces of granite cottages built for the miners can still be seen. The village was named after the obscure Saint Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village now has a pub, a convenience store, and an 1828 granite Gothic church. Six miles away is Portreath, a popular tourist destination known for its wild and rugged coastline. With high cliffs, secluded coves, and sandy beaches, the area has a rich industrial heritage.
