In the heart of Hawkchurch, 200 yards from the village inn, is this detached single-storey cottage well converted from an artist's studio. Smart and stylish, it is a pretty cottage for small families or couples to explore East Devon. French windows lead you from the patio into your bright and airy open plan living space with seating area with big white leather sofa and multi-fuel burner, dining area and fitted kitchen. Head up a few steps to the bedrooms and smart bathroom with romantic roll top bath. The sunny patio has outdoor furniture beside your lovely lawn with small unfenced wildlife pond. There's another little lawn to the side where you can stretch out on the loungers. The owner has poultry in the adjoining paddock and eggs and organic veg may be available in season. This is a great location for touring Devon and Dorset beyond this pretty village. The Jurassic Coast is fun for fossil hunting at Lyme Regis, Axminster is home to the River Cottage and Forde Abbey House and Gardens are splendid. Puffin Cottage is a dear little base for enjoying the lovely landscape and soaking up the peace.

Phil and Polly very kindly left biscuits, milk and eggs for us, which was much appreciated. We enjoyed our stay and the cottage was well positioned for visiting lovely Dorset/Devon places.

It was so warm and cosy in all the rain we had but the TV and radio were well used. The eggs from the farm were superb and I even brought some home. The owners Polly and Phyll were friendly and welcoming and on hand should you need them. The cottage wasn't easy to find as the web site didn't have a street name, however, we understood why as Downash Lane isn't marked until you are halfway down the street. A quaint village with good community shop and beautiful church.

-visits around Devon and Dorset. Phil and Polly were extremely welcoming hosts and they'd thought of everything in the house. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like logs!! Thank you. A great holiday.
