Guests say

Guests consistently praise The Hayloft for its stunning location, high-quality finish, and the warm hospitality provided by hosts Astrid and Peter. The property offers a peaceful retreat with beautiful views and direct access to walks. The spacious and light-filled accommodation is well-equipped, dog-friendly, and maintains a high standard of cleanliness. The thoughtful touches, such as local walk guides and a welcoming atmosphere, contribute to an exceptional holiday experience.

Reviewers frequently commend the property for its exceptional cleanliness, noting it is maintained to a very high standard, even when accommodating pets.

The property's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, privacy, and easy access to Dartmoor, with many delightful walks available straight from the door.

Guests find the accommodation extremely comfortable, with special mentions of the generous bedrooms, comfortable beds, and the cosy atmosphere enhanced by a log burner.

The Hayloft is celebrated for its well-equipped and high-spec facilities. However, a few guests noted the WiFi issues and the steep stairs, which slightly impacted the score.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident in the provision of detailed local walk guides and other amenities. While gifts like fresh eggs are mentioned, they are a delightful bonus and not a guaranteed offering.

About this property

This lovely cottage converted from a hayloft above stables is situated in the peaceful hamlet of Water, just 400 yards from the pub in the Devon village of Manaton on the edge of Dartmoor. This is a relaxing country base for families or couples. Head from the parking area beyond the owners’ farmhouse down a gravelled path into a courtyard and step up to the front door to find yourself in a big tiled hall which is a useful space for storing your walking gear. From here, take the stairs up to the open plan living space, where you will want to gaze at the amazing views over fields to Black Hill. The hand built kitchen with dining area features at one end, whilst at the other end the leather sofas are comfortably positioned by a cosy wood burning stove. The three bedrooms are comfortable, all being en suite. Through the traditional Devon courtyard you will find your own enclosed private garden with a picnic bench to enjoy. Nine acres of gardens with pond and fields welcome you to wander, or head off along a half mile walk through woods to Lustleigh Cleave and the River Bovey. There is also stabling if you would like to bring your horses to ride. The Hayloft is a relaxing place to stay and immerse yourself in the freedom of peaceful Devon countryside and moorland.

Lustleigh is a picture postcard village set on the deep wooded slopes of eastern Dartmoor and within Dartmoor National Park. With a pretty church, village shop and excellent pub along with lots of thatch cottages you can see why Lustleigh made it to the Telegraph's top villages.

Beautifully presented, well equipped, ideal location and with friendly and extremely helpful owners. We had our 15 month grandson with us and Astrid and Peter kindly provided a high chair, travel cot, a stair-gate and a Brio train set! We had a wonderful family weekend and definitely hope to return.

  • Ann

Astrid was very friendly and welcoming and showed us around the very warm and comfortable Hayloft. We had a wonderful week with walks from the doorstep and further afield. A very relaxing week and we wouldn't hesitate to return!

  • Jane

We had all that we needed. The location for walks is ideal and information was available in a folder as well as being informed by the owner. 10/10 Loved it. Thank you
