Guests say

Bowbeer Barn in Devon is highly praised for its comfortable accommodation, welcoming hosts, and delightful farm setting. Guests enjoy the presence of friendly farm animals and dogs, and appreciate the thoughtful touches like homemade scones and fresh eggs. The property's location is ideal for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside, with many noting its peacefulness and the enjoyable farm life experience.

The property consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being 'spotlessly clean' and 'very clean'. This suggests a well-maintained and tidy environment.

The location is frequently described as beautiful and peaceful, ideal for walks and close to local attractions. Some guests found the rural roads challenging but still manageable, indicating a generally positive reception of the location.

Comfort is well-regarded with mentions of comfortable beds and a homely feel. However, there are a few comments about hard mattresses and the lack of dog access to the bedroom area, which slightly lowers the score.

Facilities are generally praised for being well-equipped and offering a good range of amenities. Some minor criticisms about maintenance and the need for updates in certain areas, such as bedding and cutlery, suggest room for improvement.

Guests frequently express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures such as the provision of scones, milk, and eggs. While these gifts are warmly received, it is important to note that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This detached cottage converted from a Victorian barn is situated on a large beef and sheep farm just over a mile from the Devon village of Drewsteignton which offers it own local pub which is community owned and run. With an upside down layout, it is an exceptionally peaceful place to relax and enjoy the peace and unpolluted night skies. Steps from the garden take you into the open plan oak-floored living space, light and airy with seating area with wood burning stove, dining area and kitchen. Stairs lead you down to the two en suite bedrooms and a useful space for leaving coats and boots after lovely countryside walks. The enclosed garden is a great spot to chill out and gaze at long rural views to Dartmoor whilst you cook on the barbecue and eat alfresco. You will have worked up an appetite by walking the fields or perhaps going a little further afield to the open spaces of Dartmoor. You are welcome to bring your rods to fish for carp in the small farm pond. Surrounded by spectacular scenery and with the little town of Chagford and Exeter city within easy reach, Bowbeer Barn is a great central spot for exploring Devon.

Drewsteignton sits high above the River Teign as it meanders through a spectacular steep wooded Teign Gorge. It is a chocolate box village with a cluster of ancient cob and thatched cottages surrounding a square, complete with an ancient church.

Lovely conversion with an ideal layout of double bedrooms each with ensuite. The staircase between the two bedrooms provided privacy and everywhere nicely decorated and furnished. All the comforts of home. Easy parking. Made very welcome by a charming lady farmer who makes excellent soft scones! We only met the lovely sweetest natured farm dogs as we were leaving. Highly recommended and we hope to visit again.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the fishing in the pool was great. The cottage was clean and comfortable although due to lack of space there was no cupboards to store our food supplies for the week and the internet was intermittent. There was a wide range of animals in the adjoining field Aylesbury and other ducks, geese, goats, bulls and cattle and the cottage has a good surrounding area which we made full use of. Would readily return if stopping in the area.

The Barn is very comfortable and in a good location for exploring the area. It was lovely to be able to look out the windows and see sheep, goats, ducks, cows and the lovely farm dogs. The cream tea waiting for us on arrival was a very nice touch too.
