Marles Farmhouse in Dorset receives high praise for its well-equipped amenities, spacious and comfortable accommodation, and peaceful rural setting. Guests appreciate the welcoming hosts and the property's suitability for multi-generational family gatherings. The gardens and proximity to beaches and local attractions add to the positive experience, with many expressing a desire to return.
Guests consistently note the property's cleanliness, with remarks on its spotless condition upon arrival. One mention of an oven needing a better clean slightly impacts the otherwise impeccable feedback.
The location is celebrated for its tranquillity and proximity to beaches and points of interest. The rural setting is a highlight, though one guest noted the single track road access could be a consideration for some drivers.
The farmhouse is repeatedly described as roomy and comfortable, with ample space for guests of all ages. A few comments suggest the beds could be softer, indicating a slight room for improvement in this area.
Facilities are generally regarded as excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen and ample bathrooms. Suggestions for additional entertainment options and a minor issue with a fridge indicate there is some room for enhancement.
While many reviews commend the hosts' welcoming nature and the well-thought-out amenities, there is no specific mention of gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness based on the provision of gifts, and the score is set to null.
About a mile from the pretty Dorset villages of Salwayash and Waytown, on the edge of the beautiful Marshwood Vale, an area of outstanding beauty and within the Dorset National Landscape is Marles Farmhouse.
This detached, stone-built, fabulous family home is approached along wooded lanes and bordered by rolling green fields.
Peaceful and secluded with no near neighbours, (The owner lives on-site in their converted dairy) the property was completely refurbished in 2015 to include modern comforts, which perfectly complement the original 19th century thick stone walls, beams and fireplace, to create a smart, spacious and welcoming home including many changes to minimise environmental impact such as solid wall insulation, solar with battery storage and water hearting, biomass heating and EV charging.
Since then, there have been ongoing improvements to ensure the property is kept up to date and the house and gardens are beautifully maintained.
A huge, well-equipped kitchen with polished granite surface, range cooker and a dining area big enough to accommodate everyone is the real heart of the home.
Stretch out in front of a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room, or for those not so sunny days the family/games room with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a WiFi/Bluetooth connected music system will keep everyone occupied. Alternatively, gather the family around the piano and sing along.
Also on the ground-floor is a twin bedroom and a shower-room making this property suitable for those who are less mobile.
Staircases at either end of the house lead to the first floor and five further bedrooms, all with pretty views over the garden and fields beyond, two king size doubles with en-suite shower-rooms, two twins with zip-linkable beds to create doubles and a family room with adult bunks.
There are two further bathrooms on this floor to complete the living accommodation.
Outside, to the front, a wide paved terrace with picnic benches and a barbecue catches the sun all day long, whilst to the rear, the cottage garden looking over sheep-grazed fields, and chickens (no cockerel!) has an enclosed lawn with table/chairs and is a great spot for morning coffee and wildlife-watching and you will see may see deer, foxes, owls and bats.
A children's climbing frame/swing and an open-fronted garage with table tennis are sure to be a great hit with the younger family members.
Scenic and secluded, Marles Farmhouse is perfectly placed for exploring this popular area of Dorset with good walking from the front door.
The vibrant market town of Bridport and the stunning Dorset coast with good sandy beaches at West Bay and Charmouth are all within 10 miles.
Further afield, you can spend the day hunting for fossils along the Jurassic Coast, take a stroll along the iconic 'Cobb' at Lyme Regis or visit the seaside town of Weymouth, where you'll find a variety of water sports to try.
The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns.

The house had everything we needed and more. There was plenty of room for nine people and a dog, with enough bathrooms and sitting areas. We found the parking area perfect and the garden was fully enclosed and safe for our dog. A real highlight was the ten minute walk to the local pub where the landlord made us especially welcome, so we felt right at home. Plenty of things to do, Lyme Regis, Durdle Door, the beaches and pretty towns all within an acceptable drive.
