Lyme View, boasting views over Chesil Beach and the ocean beyond, is a delightful two-bed property resting in the coastal town of Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, and is an ideal hideaway for a family or group of friends looking to explore the coast of Dorset. Be welcomed into a charming living space, outfitted with sailing medals and photograph’s belonging to the owner, finding a delightful living/dining space with stylish furniture, ideal for a hearty meal, games night, or settling down to enjoy a movie marathon. When mealtimes call, the kitchen/diner caters to your culinary needs with a whole range of amenities tucked away into contemporary furniture, and here there is a second dining space and access to the rear garden. Dine alfresco in a cheerfully painted sitting area with a backdrop of sea views and salty air, so why not make the most of the sunshine and enjoy a tipple in the evening as the stars appear overhead? Freshen up in the shower room before cosying up for the night in one of the two bedrooms, both with their own character and charm, choosing between a double and a twin. Settled into the coast of the Isle of Portland, Fortuneswell is a delightful location with a local shop, a pub, The Cove House Inn, and access to a fantastic beach where guests can try out watersports. The Isle of Portland itself is home to the intriguing Portland Castle, as well as Portland Museum, a selection of beaches, coastal walks and watersports activities for an action-packed afternoon trying out kayaking, sailing, paddleboarding and more. Weymouth offers a theatre, many eateries, RSPB Radipole Lake for birdwatching and water skiing and wakeboarding facilities, and from here you can try out a game of golf at one of the local courses or take a scenic walk along the breath-taking West Dorset Heritage Coast. Explore the lovely independent shops of Dorchester, or further from the property explore the Jurassic coast at Lyme Regis and Charmouth. All of this and so much more with a stay at the delightful Lyme View.
Situated on Dorset's spectacular Jurassic Coast, now a World Heritage Site, the village of Fortuneswell can be found on the rugged Isle of Portland peninsula, joined to the mainland via Chesil Beach, a pebble spit, which stretches 18 miles towards West Bay. The house is lovely, modern inside and well-equipped, but being senior I needed the (provided) instructions for everything and we didn't know what some gadgets even were! No DVD or CD player, so these stayed in the car, which we were lucky enough to park outside on arrival, but I think the parking does require a confident driver. However, there is a bus stop a five minute walk from the house and a very good service into Weymouth and in the other direction towards Portland Bill. Walking one way out of the house is hilly, the other down lots of steps. The stairs in the house are also quite steep, so as previously noted by another guest I would say this house may be a challenge for those without good mobility. The closeness of seafront pub and cafe, and the CoOp and a fish and chip shop on the main road nearby make the house perfect for a car free seaside holiday. The Portland Museum and D-Day Centre are both excellent and well worth visiting. Of course Chesil Beach is fabulous. We will definitely be back.

The blind in the twin room once down wouldn't go back up. But did enjoy our stay and the view. You may want to take a picture of the parking as it very steep and tight that was a let down it wasn't stated about the tightness only limited parking.

Washing machine spin does not work. Iron cable needs replacing, badly kinked and wires showing. Lounge rug needs securing, a trip hazard. Incinerator does not work. Also needs to mention how hilly it is, not accessible for anyone with poor mobility. Overall though, thrilled with the property.
