Guests say

Mallard is a well-loved cottage praised for its peaceful setting, comfort, and dog-friendly garden. Guests appreciate the helpful owner and the property's proximity to local attractions. While most found it clean and well-appointed, a few noted areas needing attention or additional kitchen items.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, but there were isolated reports of dust and unwashed utensils. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule, suggesting generally good but occasionally inconsistent cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to the Forest of Dean, and local amenities. The scenic views and wildlife add to the charm, making it an ideal rural retreat.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, comfortable, and snug, with a warm log burner and comfortable bed. However, one mention of a hot bedroom suggests room for improvement in temperature management during warmer weather.

The cottage is well-equipped for a relaxing stay, with a secure garden for dogs and a log burner. Some guests suggested the need for more kitchen items and minor maintenance, indicating very good facilities with some room for enhancement.

While guests mention a generous supply of logs and a welcoming owner, there is no specific reference to gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

The cottage has everything you need for a holiday, the bed is very comfortable as is the rest of the furniture. Outside there is an ample garden which is ideal as we take our two dogs with us. Steve the owner is always on hand should you require his help. We would recommend Mallard to anybody who is looking for a quiet rural retreat for a holiday. There are plenty of places to visit should you go exploring. We will definitely be going back

We visited pubs, shops and a cafe in the village as well as travelled to local towns and did lots of walking in the Forest of Dean. The cottage is in a great position with a peaceful view. I was a bit surprised by the main trainline so close by, but didn’t find it too disturbing. We had everything we needed in the cottage and found the secure garden a particular benefit for our dog. The owner was friendly and helpful. To increase comfort levels even more I’d suggest a new mattress. However we had a great time overall for the week and can see why it’s such a popular cottage.
