About this property

This delightful spacious apartment sits above a café and shop in the tranquil village of Thorncombe, Dorset. Offering glorious country views, Ambleside is a magnificent escape for families and couples looking to escape everyday life and uncover the best of Werst Dorset. Enter through the front door and take a set of stairs to reach Ambleside. Step into the lounge, complete with three sofas placed around the centre table and Smart TV, ideal for movie nights together. Move into the kitchen, where the house chef can get to work on a sumptuous meal, utilising a range of appliances in the process. In the summer months, take advantage of the terrace space, featuring a set of table and chairs that is perfect for enjoying a drink on a warm evening. As the night grows darker, wash away the day in the bathroom, complete with bath and shower over, before retiring to either of the three neutrally presented bedrooms, including two king-size and a single. You won’t have to travel far to grab the essentials, as below the apartment lies a well-stocked village shop! This is a great location for touring Devon and Dorset beyond this pretty village. Pop on your walking attire and discover the surrounding area, providing wonderful walks - four national walking trails run through the village and perhaps take in views from nearby Pilsdon Pen, one of Dorset’s highest points. Venture into the bustling town of Lyme Regis with its family friendly beach and the iconic Cobb Harbour. Brush up on local knowledge with a visit to the Lyme Regis Museum and try your hand at fossil hunting at Charmouth Beach before settling down for a pint and some grub in a local pub. Ambleside is a charming abode for an escape to Dorset, whatever time of year.

On the southern Devon border, in the county of Dorset, is the village and civil parish of Thorncombe. West of Thorncombe Parish Church is the hamlet of Hewood. There are three farms and sixteen thatched homes there. It was primarily constructed in the middle of the 18th century. The majority of the locals have lived there their entire lives. It is situated on a rocky hillside with a view of Windwhistle Hill. Forde Abbey House and Gardens are among the local landmarks. Both the Chard Museum and the Axe Valley Wildlife Park are accessible by car. Thorncombe offers a charming village shop with helpful employees. Six miles separate Chard and Cricket St. Thomas from Thorncombe.

The beds were comfortable. What let the property down was the bathroom. There were 2 showers, one of which we couldn’t get to work, and the other the pressure was very low so a reasonable jet of water could not be achieved. The other issue with the bathroom was the mould around the bath edges etc. If this had been an hotel I would have asked to be moved. It’s a shame really as everything else was very good with the property.

We had everything we needed in this well equipped accommodation. Would definitely recommend.

The property is above the village shop which had a good stock. It also served as a small cafe. The only issue which disappointed us was the lack of a village pub the description states 0.4 mile. I believe there was a social club somewhere but we didn't find it. It should be noted that the lanes in and out of the village are very tight and to be honest don't expect to get anywhere quick. We were lucky the weather was wonderful so the lanes were dry, not sure what they would have been like in a normal winter. Saying that after a couple of days I sussed out the best routes are not what Satnav thinks they are! We had a great week, probably suited to fitter people thann us who would have appreciated the local walks. Villagers were friendly.
