The Old Fisherman's Hut in Southwold is cherished for its superb location and charming character. Guests frequently praise the stunning views, cosy atmosphere, and the property's suitability as a peaceful retreat. While some maintenance issues are noted, the unique experience and the proximity to local amenities are highly valued.
Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property clean and comfortable, while others noted areas that required more thorough cleaning, such as dusty surfaces and outdoor cobwebs. The inconsistency leads to a slightly above average score.
The location is consistently lauded for its idyllic setting, with spectacular views and proximity to nature, walks, and local pubs. It is described as a perfect spot for a tranquil getaway, contributing to a high score in this category.
Comfort levels are generally positive, with mentions of a cosy atmosphere and comfortable bedding. However, some guests noted the bedroom size and temperature as drawbacks, suggesting room for improvement.
Facilities receive mixed reviews. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and the warmth provided by heaters, but several maintenance issues such as plumbing and shower drainage problems are highlighted, affecting the overall score.
There is insufficient information to accurately score thoughtfulness. While a welcome bottle of wine is mentioned, there is no consistent reference to gifts or additional thoughtful touches that would allow for a fair assessment in this category.

Great walks and pub nearby too. The hut was as expected basic but comfortable. The only setback was that the garden was not secure for the dog ( had to be kept on a lead Also a note to inform guests that no firewood is supplied. We enjoyed our weekend very much and would love to return

The position of the hut is amazing. Although the bedroom is small it is very comfortable and the other facilities were good, with the exception of the shower as the water drainage wasn't very effective and a little plunge was necessary. We had an issue with a loss of power on the first evening, the information folder was not up to date regarding a second fuse box which was frustrating. When Rob and his colleague from the maintenance team arrived the next morning they took a photo of the second fuse box which was not visible behind a bin and blocked from view. The updated info should prevent future guests from having a problem. We would stay again and will recommend this little gem.

Comfort is fine, obviously wear & tear on the outside but there improvements are needed for inside. We had no gas left to use the oven, this should of been checked before the next guests arrive. We waited over the weekend until a replacement gas bottle was brought over. Communications with Sykes was good & prompt. Cleaning was not great, dirty greasy hob, dusty, massive cobwebs & a dirty toilet. So we had to clean as soon as we got there. The welcome information file was not detailed enough & inaccurate. It needs updating. We had a power cut & finding the 2nd fuse box was difficult! It's in the kitchen, behind the bin, on the floor. Also the house keeper (who's details are in the file) hasn't worked there for 6 months, as I contacted her about helping with the power outage! The shower isn't great as you have to plunge the plug hole as you shower to get the water to drain, that's a complete nuisance.
