Guests consistently praise The Old Cart House for its stunning views, peaceful surroundings, and friendly farm animals. The property is appreciated for its spaciousness and comfort, making it ideal for large groups and families. The local pub and scenic walks add to the charm, while the presence of Wi-Fi ensures connectivity. The owners are commended for their hospitality, contributing to a delightful rural retreat.
Reviews frequently mention the property's cleanliness, with guests impressed by the well-kept environment despite it being part of a working farm. Occasional mentions of cobwebs are understandable given the rural setting.
The location scores highly with guests who love the remote, beautiful setting and proximity to local attractions. The farm setting with animals and the nearby pub are frequently mentioned positives.
The property is consistently described as comfortable and spacious, suitable for large parties. Some guests suggest improvements in mattresses and additional bathrooms for better comfort.
Facilities are generally well-received, with the open-plan living area and well-equipped kitchen being highlights. However, some guests note the need for sharper knives and a larger fridge, indicating room for improvement.
While guests mention thoughtful touches like a welcome bottle of wine and Christmas decorations, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to guarantee such amenities will always be provided. Therefore, a score cannot be accurately assigned.
A delightful semi-detached barn conversion situated on a traditional hill farm in Farndale. Boasting a large farmhouse kitchen with a delightful sitting and dining area, open fire and exposed beams in the second sitting room, The Old Cart House provides superb accommodation. Walkers and mountain bikers will be spoiled for choice with bridleways, tracks and footpaths through magnificent open moors and countryside. The towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, and picturesque Hutton-le-Hole are also all within easy reach. The perfect location for a wonderful holiday. The beautiful valley of Farndale is in the North York Moors National Park, with the old Rosedale Ironstone Railway winding around the northern end of the dale and two small communities at Low Mill and Church Houses. Farndale is famous for the spectacular carpet of wild daffodils in the springtime and approximately 35,000 people come to see this amazing sight. The ancient market town of Kirkbymoorside is 10 miles away and has a good selection of shops and eateries. Pickering is 17 miles away and is home to the North York Steam Railway with trains running to Grosmont. Hutton-le-Hole is close by and home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, which is a worthwhile visit. The property has plenty of space, practical facilities & is in a fantastic location, esp for children who love animals & the outdoors. Only negative comments are that there were no sharp knives for food prep & the WiFi was turned off at 8am on the day of departure (there is no 4G or mobile signal), so we had no means to work out our best route home. Perhaps the WiFi could be turned off 15 mins before customers have to be out, rather than 2 hours before? We also had no means to keep the small children occupied watching TV, whilst we packed & tidied up to leave, as it doesnât work without WiFi. Otherwise a great week & great property. We would definitely book again.

However there were a lot of cobwebs which again it is a working farm and the cottage has an abundance of nooks and crannies which gather dust webs! The layout of the building was absolutely perfect for our family and we were all absolutely blown away by the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. There was plenty of room for the seven humans and one pooch. The views are spectacular and the silence is divine! We will most definitely be coming back as it is a perfect location to explore the area. Pub down the lane does food but three out of the six meals we ordered were a little disappointing and the menu was a little expensive. We used the coal BBQ twice and spent the afternoons on the veranda with a few beverages watching the farmer working hard in the fields. The children were amused by the ducks, geese and even the peacocks played the game and shook their tails. Thank you so much for an amazing stay.
