Waterloo Cottage Annexe in Whitby is highly praised for its idyllic riverside setting, abundant wildlife, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cleanliness, and the thoughtful touches like binoculars and a welcome pack. The location is ideal for walks into Whitby and the local pub offers fine food. Some guests noted the WiFi and phone signal could be sporadic, and the road nearby was busier than expected.
Reviews consistently mention the cottage being very clean and tidy, with several guests highlighting the spotlessness of the property. The high level of cleanliness contributes significantly to the overall positive experience.
The location is frequently described as beautiful and perfect for nature lovers, with easy access to Whitby and local amenities. The proximity to a busy road was noted by a guest, but the riverside setting and wildlife seem to outweigh this.
The cottage is often described as cosy and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and a warm environment. However, a few guests mentioned the bed being soft at the edges and the sleeping arrangements being tight for four people.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and extras like a washing machine and binoculars. Some guests reported issues with the TV volume and WiFi, and a suggestion was made for a shaver socket in the bathroom.

An attractive, single-storey property, adjoining the owners' holiday home, situated on the banks of the River Esk in Ruswarp village. Traditionally furnished and decorated, this Ruswarp cottage provides desirable accommodation for couples wishing to stay in a tranquil riverside setting, but within easy reach of the lively seaside town of Whitby. The spacious sitting room takes in lovely views over the river and offers a cosy woodburner for cooler evenings, whilst the small kitchen opens onto a porch/conservatory with additional seating overlooking the garden. Outside this Ruswarp cottage, a lawned garden runs alongside the river banks, a delightful place to sit, relax and watch the abundance of wildlife - including seals that are regularly seen swimming upstream. This Ruswarp cottage has the added benefit of river access, so guests are able to bring canoes and kayaks. Ruswarp village has excellent facilities, including a renowned butcher's, a local inn serving real ales and food and a village shop. Steam trains regularly pass by in the summer months and a public footpath offers a pleasant walk into Whitby, with its famous abbey, good beaches and historic harbour. Why not climb the 199 steps up to St. Mary's church and take an invigorating cliff top walk, or explore the quaint, narrow streets and cobbled market place? With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors close by and the dramatic coastline to discover, this Ruswarp cottage provides an ideal base.
Just two miles inland from the seaside resort of Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast is the quiet little North York Moors village of Ruswarp. As well as a nine-hole golf course, this quaint little place also enjoys the use of a village pub and shop as well as both sea and river fishing facilities. The river which runs through town provides excellent opportunities for a boat ride, or just a few minutes away is the local miniature steam railway. With so much to do in the area, this is an excellent base for those looking to enjoy the Yorkshire Coast.
