The Lodge in Whitby is a well-loved cottage praised for its superb location, cosy atmosphere, and comfortable furnishings. Guests have enjoyed the local walks, the proximity to attractions, and the dog-friendly environment. The property has been described as a great base for exploring the surrounding areas, with a welcoming local pub nearby.
Most guests found The Lodge clean and well-kept, though there were some concerns about cleanliness in the kitchen and living areas, with reports of food stains and dog hairs. These issues seem to be occasional rather than systemic.
The location is highly praised for its quiet setting, accessibility to local attractions, and convenience for walkers and dog owners. The nearby pub and the cinder track are frequently mentioned as positive aspects.
Guests have commented on the comfortable beds and the cosy nature of the cottage, making it a relaxing place to stay. However, some guests found the mattresses too firm, and there were comments about inadequate heating.
The Lodge is generally well-equipped, with a good range of amenities that guests have found useful. There were some minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as problems with the heating and a bathroom window, but these do not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.
Unfortunately we’ve been unable assess this category comprehensively enough based on the reviews we’ve received from guests about this property.
Positioned in the charming village of Stainsacre within the North York Moors National Park, The Lodge is a delightful end-terrace cottage offering four guests a base for outdoor adventures. With an enclosed garden, traditional features including exposed stone walls and beams, and close proximity to Whitby, the coast and The Cinder Track, The Lodge is an excellent choice for your next break to North Yorkshire. Enter in via the front enclosed garden, a neat space with a lawned area, patio and picnic bench for alfresco dining. Discover a homely living and dining room to relax in, complete with leather sofas, a woodburning stove and a TV, amidst the exposed timber beams and rustic stonework, with a dining table to the rear. Head into the kitchen to find ample appliances to assist you on your self-catered stay, including an electric oven with gas hob, a washing machine and a dishwasher. Take the stairs to the first floor and come upon the stylish bathroom, boasting a claw-foot bath with a hand held shower, overhead shower and subway tiling. Lay your head down in one of the two delightful bedrooms, including a master double bedroom which benefits from a dressing room, and a twin room. The village of Stainsacre is home to a lovely pub, Windmill Inn, lying just a short stroll away, perfect for evening meals and drinks, while the nearest supermarkets are around half a mile from the cottage on the outskirts of Whitby. Close to the cottage is The Cinder Track, a disused railway line turned into a 22-mile walking and cycling route running just inland from the coast from Whitby to Scarborough, offering the perfect way to explore the national park with your family. Just two miles away is the coast where you can embark on further walks, this time with sea views, along the Cleveland Way, coming to the likes of Robin Hood's Bay, a delightful village to stop at for refreshments in one of the pubs or cafés. Enjoy days within the town of Whitby, choosing from an array of attractions with firm favourites being the dramatic Whitby Abbey which sits over the town, reached via the 199 Steps, with the Whalebone Arch and Whitby Lighthouse providing perfect photo ops, and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum shedding light on the history of the town and its famous explorer. Venture further into the North York Moors National Park for walks along the Esk Valley, searching for waterfalls, and hiking the various hills and peaks found here. Enjoy a fun family break or a walking adventure to the North York Moors and coast at The Lodge.
Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and enjoying a position on the coast is the popular town of Whitby.
