Buttercup Lodge is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches such as welcome packs. Nestled in a peaceful setting, it's an ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire and enjoying local beaches. While some minor maintenance issues were noted, the overall experience remains overwhelmingly positive, with many guests planning to return.
Guests consistently mention the lodge's cleanliness, describing it as 'spotlessly clean' and 'perfectly clean', indicating a very high standard of hygiene.
The lodge's location is praised for its proximity to the beach, local attractions, and its position on the Cleveland Way path, making it ideal for dog walkers and explorers.
The lodge is described as comfortable, with lovely beds and pillows, and spacious enough for guests and their pets. However, some guests mentioned noise from the hot tub and trees at night affecting their sleep.
The lodge is well-equipped, with guests appreciating the utensils and garden furniture. Some minor maintenance issues were raised, such as the need for light bulb replacements and a non-functioning fan, which slightly impacted the score.
Guests were delighted with welcome packs, including treats like Prosecco, which added a special touch to their stay. However, it's important to note that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.

A delight for artists, Staithes is a quaint, peaceful seaside town with cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways. A secluded sandy beach is nestled among the rocky shoreline, and the town's charming homes and cottages are grouped around the historic harbour and bordered by high, jagged cliffs on three sides. The community can claim ties to Captain Cook, who served as an apprentice to a draper close to the harbour. Today, Staithes, which boasts a decent selection of pubs, shops, and tea rooms, is a must-see for anyone travelling to the Yorkshire Coast. There is still an rnli lifeboat station in Staithes, along with a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) that land fish, crab, and lobster. Boat trips are also offered for fishing, birdwatching, and even whale watching. Old Jack's Boat, a well-liked BBC children's television programme, is also filmed there. With an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries, and artist studios that frequently provide art classes and seminars, Staithes has a strong draw for artists. The network of ginnels (alleyways) is navigated by the free Illusion Trail, which also offers local trail guides. The Cleveland Way, which descends the cliff to the sea's edge, offers the best views of the town. All in all, a great starting point for touring the Yorkshire Coast, going to Whitby or Scarborough, or taking in the moorland settlements of the North York Moors National Park.

Hot tub was a luxury - and we made the most of it! Good location, easy access to Whitby and surrounding activities. Would happy return if we were looking for something in this area

!! Last year I got the impression that the lodges were brand new and fixtures and fittings matched accordingly. It is expected that there be some signs of ware and tear and general usage, but I felt that a few simple house keeping and maintenance practices could be utlilised to keep the lodge in top notch condition and match expectations. For example in Buttercup Lodge the fan in the ensuite shower room did not work and added to the fact that one of the window catches was broken so the window could not be opened to allow steam to escape this ended up in a foisty room, faded and stained shower mats, one of the dining room spot lights needed replacing, the clock needed a new battery, kitchen bin broken and some of the light bulbs in the hot tub needed to be replaced - none of these things are major but add up to a little feel of neglect. Also, the the pots and pans had literally been thrown into the cupboard I assume by the previous occupier, just a quick check from cleaning staff to make sure the cupboard was in order would be sufficient. These are small points which were just a little disappointing, overall the lodge was immaculately clean, beds clean and comfortable, garden furniture and hot tub excellent. The site is well kept and tidy. Overall a resounding recommendation, but paying attention to those little details will ensure such high standards

Our little grandson loved the hot tub of course, and the lodge was handy to visit the beach, Whitby (on the bus), Scarborough and Flamingo Park. Thank you for a lovely stay.
